Trotz seines Namens kann der Vorschüler Wayne Cowboys nicht leiden. So ist er wenig begeistert, mit Eltern und 2 nervigen, älteren Schwestern einen Cowboy-Park zu besuchen. Als sie sogar über Nacht bleiben, ist er entsetzt. Erst der sprechende Präriehund Johnny ändert die Lage und erklärt, dass der Cowboy-Park genau der richtige Ort für Waynes größten Wunsch ist: "Öfters mal seine Ruhe zu haben". Johnny zeigt ihm den nächtlichen Park sowie all die echten und unechten Besonderheiten. So gibt es winzige Zwergschakale; einen Käfer, der nicht einschlafen kann; einen Rohrspatz, der mit seinem Spiegelbild streitet; Geier und einen Kaktusspecht. Wayne gewinnt zunehmend an Selbstbewusstsein und fühlt sich am Ende bei den Cowboys richtig wohl. Die 7 Kapitel eignen sich auch einzeln prima zum Vorlesen. Ein dickes Plus sind die fantasievollen Illustrationen, die das Buch stimmungsvoll in Szene setzen. Der kürzlich verstorbenen H. Rosenboom (zuletzt Pferdeserie "Ferdi" vgl. BA 7/08) gelang ein skurriler, witziger Titel, der zum Vorlesen ab 5 oder zum Selbstlesen ab 8 Jahren besonders für Jungen gerne empfohlen ist.. - Nicht genug, dass Wayne gar keine Lust auf den Cowboy-Park hat, den seine Eltern mit ihm und den 2 älteren Schwestern besuchen - zu allem Überfluss bleiben sie jetzt auch noch über Nacht. 7 skurrile Kapitel, in denen Wayne dank des Präriehundes Johnny doch noch Spaß am Ausflug hat. Ab 5.
