Übermäßiger Medienkonsum und gewaltgeprägte Computerspiele werden oft für schulischen Leistungsabfall und aggressives Verhalten bei Jugendlichen verantwortlich gemacht. Inwieweit dies zutrifft und welche weiteren Faktoren dafür bestimmend sind, beleuchten die folgenden Vorträge. Christian Pfeiffer: žGewaltprävention und MedienŽ, Frankfurt am Main, Oktober 2007. Der Kriminologe Prof. Dr. Christian Pfeiffer war bis 2002 niedersächsischer Justizminister. Er forscht über Jugendkriminalität und Mediennutzung, die Auswirkungen sogenannter žKillerspieleŽ und deren Suchtpotenzial. Dabei macht er einen Zusammenhang zwischen übermäßiger Mediennutzung, schlechter schulischer Leistungen und erhöhter Gewaltbereitschaft aus. Prof. Pfeiffer plädiert für einen žmodernenŽ Kinder- und Jugendschutz, der auch die Entwicklung der Medienkompetenz umfasst. Er setzt sich für einen verbesserten Schutz der Jugendlichen vor unkontrolliertem Medienkonsum und die Indizierung gewalthaltiger Computerspiele ein. Prof. Dr. Gerald Hüther leitet die Zentralstelle für neurobiologische Forschung an der Universitätsklinik Göttingen und Mannheim/Heidelberg. Der Hirnforscher zeigt auf, welche neuronalen Netzwerke und synaptischen Verschaltungen durch die extensive Mediennutzung besonders stark entwickelt werden. Daneben beleuchtet er die Motive für einen extensiven Medienkonsum und die besondere Sogwirkung von Computerspielen. Professor Hüther geht der Frage nach, was Kinder und Jugendliche vor dieser Sogwirkung schützen kann und wie man computersüchtigen Jugendlichen hilft, ihre Abhängigkeit zu überwinden.
