Das Buch erschien in Schweden bevor Greta Thunberg zur Ikone der weltweiten Klimabewegung wurde. Es ist über weite Strecken der schonungslos offene Bericht von Malena Ernman über das Leben mit ihren zwei heranwachsenden Töchtern Greta und Beata, die beide unter schweren psychischen Störungen leiden, Autismus und ADHS. Sie schildert den täglichen Kampf um verlässliche Diagnosen und Therapien, gegen Mobbing und Ausgrenzung in der Schule oder um kleine Gewichtszunahmen bei Greta, die oft Stunden dafür braucht, winzige Mengen zu sich zu nehmen. Die Familie gerät mehrfach an den Rand des Zusammenbruchs. Viele betroffene Eltern werden sich hier wiederfinden. Greta kommt nur einmal direkt zu Wort. Es ist letztlich ihrem beharrlichen Engagement für den Klimaschutz zu verdanken, dass die ganze Familie zu einer neuen Stabilität zurückfindet. Das Buch besteht aus vielen kürzeren Texten zu Szenen aus dem Leben der Familie und mit Reflektionen zur Klimakrise, die in ihrer Kompromisslosigkeit manche befremden werden.
