„21. Jahrhundert. Alarm im Weltraum! Das Forschungsraumschiff IKAROS sendet keine Signale mehr. Es bleibt trotz unermüdlicher Suche unauffindbar. Doch die kleine Rakete LAIKA, die unbemannte Sonden im Asteroidengürtel zwischen Mars und Jupiter kontrolliert, empfängt ein sonderbares Rauschen. Zeichen anderer vernunftbegabter Wesen oder eine Nachricht der gesuchten IKAROS? Kommandant Veikko sucht mit seiner Mannschaft nach einer Lösung. Als auf dem Radarschirm das Wrack der IKAROS auftaucht, von deren Besatzung jedoch jede Spur fehlt, geht die Angst um: Gibt es eine neue Bedrohung aus dem Weltraum? Nur Kommandant Veikko ist überzeugt, dass Wesen auf einem hoch entwickelten technischen Niveau vorsintflutliche Verhaltensweisen der Aggression und Feindschaft längst überwunden haben.
