Abstract: Das Panel on the Treatment of Organic Erectile Dysfunction der amerikanischen urologischen Gesellschaft (AUA) hat festgestellt, dass das Ziel einer zuverlässigen Therapie der Erektilen Dysfunktion mit möglichst minimalen Nebenwirkungen und einfacher Anwendung erreicht werden sollte. Im Vergleich mit allen übrigen Arzneistoffen zur Therapie der Erektilen Dysfunktion erfüllen PDE5‐Hemmer diese Anforderungen am besten. Deren Wirksamkeit ist unzweifelhaft belegt: Sie verbessern die Fähigkeit, bei sexueller Stimulation eine Erektion zu erreichen und aufrecht zu erhalten, die für einen Geschlechtsverkehr ausreicht. PDE5‐Hemmer sind demzufolge keine “Lifestyle‐Arzneimittel” und schon gar nicht Wundermittel zur Potenzsteigerung. Vielmehr handelt es sich bei den PDE5‐Inhibitoren um eine seriöse Arzneistoffklasse, die es Paaren ermöglicht, wieder in normaler Häufigkeit Geschlechtsverkehr zu haben. Die gute Wirksamkeit in Verbindung mit dem sehr guten Sicherheitsprofil – bei strenger Berücksichtigung der Kontraindikationen – machen PDE5‐Hemmer aus aktueller Sicht zur bedeutendsten Wirkstoffklasse zur oralen Therapie der Erektilen Dysfunktion.
