La violence urbaine et la peur ont changé le paysage dans certaines villes du monde selon un processus nommé « sécurisation urbaine ». En réponse au sentiment d'insécurité, le territoire est transformé par la présence des formes architecturales variées, telles que les caméras de surveillance, les gated communities et les architectures anti-mendiants. De telles formes urbaines se sont multipliées à Campinas, ville brésilienne abritant des profondes inégalités spatiales. Des exemples observés ont été analysés via des travaux de terrain comprenant des entretiens avec les agents locaux, des photos et des cartes. Ces données permettent de décrire le processus de sécurisation et surtout, de développer une réflexion autour de ses conséquences. Comme conclusion, il est possible d'affirmer que la manière employée pour quêter la sécurité augmente les inégalités spatiales, renforce la psychosphère de la peur, menace les libertés individuelles et favorise l'émergence de contre-rationalités
