Uniform Title: Sonatas violin, piano no. 4, op. 23 A minor
Content: Maxim Vengerov gives a masterclass on the first movement of Beethoven's Sonata for violin and piano No. 4 A gifted child, Maxim Vengerov gave his first recital at the age of five and won the first prize in the Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition at the age of ten. Considered today one of the most accomplished violinists of his time, he does not hesitate to share his talents for the benefit of the education. Indeed, students of the London Royal Academy of Music describe him as a careful professor and a musician as interesting as inspiring. Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 4 and Violin Sonata No. 5 were highly praised, unlike the three previous ones. A music critic from 1801 described them as "the best ever written by Beethoven, that is to say they are among the best ever written." Beethoven then continued to write 10 sonatas for several years, showing his state of mind as in a diary. The Masterclass Media Foundation Archives offer to students and music lovers around the world filmed masterclasses, given by the best talents, on the greatest works of the classical repertoire. Their primary purpose is to provide a valuable educational resource in order to perpetuate passion and knowledge from one generation to another

Series Statement: Monographs of the Society for Research in Child Development Vol. III, no. 2 (serial no. 15)
Content: "This Handbook has been prepared as a methodological aid for students of child growth and development and for others who are concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, guidance and education of children, with particular reference to the period of adolescence. The material has been organized by disciplines, e.g., anatomy and anthropometry, physiology and biochemistry, pediatrics, psychology, etc., in accordance with the customary procedure, but the various methods and techniques have been grouped in the index according to the organ systems and functions to which they apply. The appearance of this Handbook may be viewed as an indication of the increasing interest in the study of child growth and development and of the realization that the various life sciences, especially the medical sciences, offer many valuable instruments for such study. In gathering the material for this Handbook, the guiding principle has been to select from the literature those methods, techniques, and procedures which might be employed to record and, if possible, measure the growing child, in order to reveal the rate and direction of growth and development, or the developmental sequence, of the various structures, functions, and activities that are being observed. In this endeavor, the study has been based upon the operational concept that, if instrumentally reliable measurements were made, they would yield valuable data on the growth process in man. The foregoing statement of some of the aims, purposes and methodological principles of the study of child development may serve to explain more fully the purpose and intent of this Handbook, since obviously a mere collection of methods and techniques can have little or no significance, apart from the problem or problems for which they are to serve as instruments. The methods outlined in the several sections of this Handbook are offered as instruments for the study of child growth and development with a full realization that the contributions from many important fields have been omitted because of limitations of personnel and time and that the methods included in this Handbook represent various methodological principles that are not in harmony"--Introduction. Content: "Understanding and Treating Anxiety Disorders: An Integrative Approach to Healing the Wounded Self describes a powerful treatment for anxiety disorders. It shows how, by evaluating the specific needs of a client and selecting appropriate approaches from several different therapeutic methods, one can identify and treat the specific emotional basis for a particular anxiety. This book describes an integrative theory of the etiology of various anxiety disorders and an integrative psychotherapy that incorporates psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic-experiential, and biomedical perspectives on anxiety. The approach is based on the premise that no single psychotherapeutic orientation is sufficient for the comprehensive and durable treatment of anxiety disorders. The integrated theories are first presented for anxiety disorders in general and then are applied to specific anxiety disorders, including specific phobias, social phobias, panic disorder with and without agoraphobia, generalized anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The author proposes that, in all of these variations of anxiety disorders, wounds to the clients sense of self are always central, and only by taking a tailored approach to a client's specific wounds can healing begin. This research-informed and clinically tested approach to helping clients resolve anxiety disorders will be of great interest to mental health practitioners of all orientations"--Jacket. Content: This paper provides the first empirical analysis of the cross-country relationship between a direct measure of competitive conduct of financial institutions and banking system fragility. Using the Panzar and Rosse H-Statistic as a measure for competition in 38 countries during 1980-2003, we present evidence that more competitive banking systems are less prone to systemic crises and that time to crisis is longer in a competitive environment. Our results hold when concentration and the regulatory environment are controlled for and are robust to different methodologies, different sampling periods, and alternative samples
