Tatsächlich war Gandhis gewaltloser Kampf gegen Rassismus und den britischen Kolonialismus auch sein gröt︢es Verdienst. Der aus bürgerlichen Verhältnissen stammende Anwalt hatte jedoch auch Probleme - mit seiner Frau, seinem Land und seiner eigenen Rolle in der Gesellschaft. Marcel Feige stellt in dieser Biografie den Menschen Gandhi differenziert dar. Er legt ihm Worte in den Mund, versucht sein Gefühlsleben zu verstehen und erlaubt sich hin und wieder eigene Urteile. Dabei wird deutlich, dass Gandhis starke Persönlichkeit auch negative Aspekte mit sich bringt - und dennoch überwiegt am Ende die Bewunderung für den gewaltlosen Rebellen. Gerade junge Leser verstehen nach der Lektüre, wieso Gandhi sein Land auch heute noch prägt. Dabei gelingt es dem Autor, unterhaltsam und flüssig zu schreiben, was selbst den Leser ohne Vorwissen einbeziehen kann. Der chronologische Aufbau strukturiert die Biografie. Das Buch ist für alle Altersgruppen interessant und macht neugierig
