Content: Analog Optical Links presents the basis for the design of analog links. Following an introductory chapter, there is a chapter devoted to the development of the small signal models for common electro-optical components used in both direct and external modulation. However this is not a device book, so the theory of their operation is discussed only insofar as it is helpful in understanding the small signal models that result. These device models are then combined to form a complete link. With these analytical tools in place, a chapter is devoted to examining in detail each of the four primary link parameters; gain, bandwidth, noise figure and dynamic range. Of particular interest is the inter-relation between device and link parameters. A final chapter explores some of the trade offs among the primary link parameters
Content: Link components and their small-signal electro-optic models -- Low-frequency, short-length link models -- Frequency response of links -- Noise in links -- Distortion in links -- Link design tradeoffs

Content: The third generation (3G) cellular system UMTS is advanced, optimised and complex. The many existing books on UMTS attempt to explain all the intricacies of the system and as a result are large and equally complex. This book takes a different approach and explains UMTS in a concise, clear and readily understandable style. Written by a professional technical trainer, and based on training courses delivered on UMTS to telecommunication companies worldwide, Essentials of UMTS will enable you to grasp the key concepts quickly. It assumes no previous knowledge of mobile telecommunication theory, and is structured around the operation of the system, clearly setting out how the different components interact with each other, and how the system as a whole behaves. Engineers, project managers and marketing executives working for equipment manufacturers and network operators will find this concise guide to UMTS invaluable
Content: Preface; 1. Introduction to mobile telecommunications; 2. Introduction to UMTS; 3. Radio transmission and reception; 4. Operational procedures; 5. Services and their implementation; 6. Future developments; Bibliography; List of abbreviations

Content: The use of regenerative energy in many primary forms leads to the necessity to store grid dimensions for maintaining continuous supply and enabling the replacement of fossil fuel systems. Chemical energy storage is one of the possibilities besides mechano-thermal and biological systems. This work starts with the more general aspects of chemical energy storage in the context of the geosphere and evolves to dealing with aspects of electrochemistry, catalysis, synthesis of catalysts, functional analysis of catalytic processes and with the interface between electrochemistry and heterogeneous catalysis. Top-notch experts provide a sound, practical, hands-on insight into the present status of energy conversion aimed primarily at the young emerging research front
