So führt das »naturalistische Schauspiel« »Das Haus am Meer« in die Jahre des amerikanischen Unabhängigkeitskrieges, das wienerische Zwischenspiel »Der verwandelte Komödiant« ins Rokoko, die »Tragikomödie« (eigentlich ein Schauspiel) »Das Lamm des Armen« in die Napoleonische Zeit und die »Zehn Bilder aus dem Leben eines deutschen Revolutionärs« »Adam Lux« in die Französische Revolution. Vom Burgtheater wurde »Das Haus am Meer« 1912 zur Uraufführung angenommen: es hatte sogleich Erfolg und wurde an deutschen Bühnen nachgespielt; »Der verwandelte Komödiantv wurde Joseph Kainz »direkt auf den Leib geschrieben«, aber der Schauspieler starb 1910, ohne die Rolle verkörpert zu haben; die Künstlerfamilienkomödie »Legende eines Lebens« spielt in der »Gegenwart«, vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg; »Das Lamm des Armen« war das letzte eigene Drama, das er 1929 zur Aufführung freigab; »Adam Lux«, 1913 begonnen, abgebrochen, wieder aufgenommen und 1928 bis zu einer Rohfassung, nicht aber zur Bühnenreife gebracht, wird hier zum erstenmal veröffentlicht.
