Oscar und Meg sind Nachbarn und beste Freunde seit Kindertagen. Jetzt sind sie Teenager und ihre Freundschaft ist zu Liebe geworden - nur wissen sie das voneinander nicht. Während Meg mit ihren Eltern für ein halbes Jahr nach Neuseeland geht, verschwindet Oscar spurlos. S.M. Fitzgeralds Liebesgeschichte beginnt mit dem Trauergottesdienst für Oscar, an dem Meg teilnimmt. Von diesem Punkt ab wird abwechselnd aus der Sichte der beiden berichtet, was geschah und geschieht. Freundschaft und Liebe sind dabei die zentralen Themen, hinzu kommen Neid, Eifersucht, Intrigen, Mobbing, Selbstmordgefährdung, ein behinderter Bruder, alleinerziehende Elternteile: kaum ein Thema, das Fitzgerald auslässt. Außerdem gibt es noch Oscars Fähigkeit, die Probleme anderer zu spüren und allen Sorgen und Nöten mit seinem Apfelkuchen zu begegnen. Das liest sich spannend, berührt an manchen Stellen und ist an anderen zu viel des Guten. Die "Logik" hinter Oscars Verschwinden ist ziemlich fragwürdig und wird nicht ernsthaft genug behandelt. Übrig bleibt eine nette Liebesgeschichte, die sicher gern gelesen wird. Hörbuch ID-A 41/15.
