Anni Albers (1899–1994) war eine außerordentlich vielseitige Künstlerin, die das alte Handwerk des Webens als Kunstform etablierte und mit moderner künstlerischer Praxis verband. Ihre Arbeit war ebenso grundlegend wie die mancher ihrer besser bekannten Bauhaus-Lehrer. Dieser Katalog stellt das Werk von Anni Albers in seiner ganzen Komplexität vor. Albers studierte in den 1920er-Jahren am Bauhaus, wo ihr Ehemann Josef Albers lehrte. Nach der Emigration in die USA unterrichteten beide am legendären Black Mountain College. Dort schuf Anni Albers viele ihrer einzigartigen Bildgewebe, die von komplexen textilen Strukturen, einer abstrakten Formensprache und subtiler Farbigkeit geprägt sind. Sie experimentierte mit neuen Materialien und entwarf Textilien für die Produktion. Obwohl sie nachfolgende Generationen von Künstlern und Designern stark beeinflusste, wurde ihre Arbeit bisher nicht ausreichend gewürdigt.
