Kurzfassung: The purpose of this study was to explore prognostic factors of bloodstream infections (BSIs), a common severe infection and a major cause of mortality worldwide, so as to construct a prognosis model of patients with BSI. Materials and Methods Clinical and biochemical test data were obtained retrospectively from the medical records of 562 patients with BSI who had been treated at a single center; the end point was 60 days of all-cause death. The chi-square test was used to compare the mortality of patients grouped by the types of antibiotic treatment. The logistic regression analysis was adopted to identify prognostic factors; the Kaplan–Meier survival curve and log-rank test were conducted to compare the survival rate of patients with different prognostic factors; the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to estimate the predictive value of different prognostic factors. Results Of the 562 patients, 455 survived (80.96%), and 107 died (19.04%). The mortality rate of patients treated with a combination of antibiotics (25.40%) was higher than that treated with a single antibiotic (15.82%). Univariate analysis identified 19 prognostic factors for patients with BSI, including gender, age, diabetes, malignant tumor (non-blood system), total hospitalization time, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, total protein, albumin, total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, creatinine, ratio of granulocytes, fibrinogen, D-dimer, platelet, C-reactive protein, shock, and respiratory failure ( P & lt; 0.05). Multivariate analysis indicated that albumin (odds ratio [OR] = 0.94, 95% confidence interval [CI] : 0.89–0.99), fibrinogen (OR = 0.61, 95%CI: 0.46–0.82), shock (OR = 16.61, 95%CI: 7.00–39.41), and respiratory failure (OR = 47.53, 95%CI: 19.93–133.64) were independent factors. The combination of four indicators demonstrated a favorable predictive value for the 60-day outcome of patients with BSI, with an area under the ROC of 0.96 (95%CI: 0.94–0.99), sensitivity of 90.65%, specificity of 94.95%, and accuracy of 94.13%. Conclusions Shock, respiratory failure, albumin, and fibrinogen are potential independent prognostic factors for 60-day mortality.

Kurzfassung: Microplastics (MPs) in soil cause severe damage to the ecological environment and organisms, and research on their health risks has received extensive attention, but there is no comprehensive review of this research. From the perspective of bibliometrics, this paper systematically and comprehensively describes the progress, trends, and hotspots of health risks of MPs in soil based on the Web of Science Core Collection, Pubmed, and Scopus databases. Since 2016, people’s research on the health risks of MPs in soil has increased yearly; MPs in soil mainly come from Plastic mulch, Plastic waste, Sludge and sewage, and Organic fertilizer. China has the most publications on the health risks of MPs on soil, and more than half of the top 10 institutions with active publications in this field are from China. This paper systematically expounds on the health risks of MPs to organisms (plants, humans, and microorganisms) and control measures. Cooperation between different countries/institutions and fields/disciplines on the health risk analysis of MPs in soil and research on more efficient, green, and environmentally friendly methods and technologies for reducing soil MPs content will become the frontier trends of future development which provide valuable reference and help for future researchers.

Kurzfassung: Trait plasticity and integration mediate vegetable adaptive strategies. However, it is unclear how patterns of vegetables in root traits influence vegetable adaptation to different phosphorus (P) levels. Nine root traits and six shoot traits were investigated in 12 vegetable species cultivated in a greenhouse with low and high P supplies to identify distinct adaptive mechanisms in relation to P acquisition (40 and 200 P mg kg -1 as KH 2 PO 4 ). At the low P level, a series of negative correlations among root morphology, exudates and mycorrhizal colonization, and different types of root functional properties (root morphology, exudates and mycorrhizal colonization) respond differently to soil P levels among vegetable species. non-mycorrhizal plants showed relatively stable root traits as compared to solanaceae plants that showed more altered root morphologies and structural traits. At the low P level, the correlation between root traits of vegetable crops was enhanced. It was also found in vegetables that low P supply enhances the correlation of morphological structure while high P supply enhances the root exudation and the correlation between mycorrhizal colonization and root traits. Root exudation combined with root morphology and mycorrhizal symbiosis to observe P acquisition strategies in different root functions. Vegetables respond highly under different P conditions by enhancing the correlation of root traits. Low P supply could significantly improve the direct and indirect ways of mycorrhizal vegetable crops’ root traits axis on shoot biomass, and enhance the direct way of non-mycorrhizal vegetable crops’ root traits axis and reduce the indirect way of root exudates.

Kurzfassung: We investigated the effects of gut microbiota and serum metabolite levels in patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome (B-CS) and their importance for guiding clinical management strategies. In total, 214 B-CS patients (93 untreated and 121 treated) and 41 healthy controls were enrolled. Gut microbiota and serum metabolome were analysed using shotgun metagenomics and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. The gut microbiota of the patients showed abundance of Campylobacter and low levels of Saccharomyces , Deinococcus , and Thiomonas (P & lt; 0.05). Thirty metabolites, including taurocholate and (R)-3-hydroxybutyric acid, were identified in the patients (VIP & gt; 1, P & lt; 0.05 and FC & gt; 1.2 or FC & lt; 0.83). Random forest (RF) models showed that serum metabolome could effectively identify B-CS from healthy controls and RF-metabolomics exhibited perfect discrimination (AUC = 100%, 95% CI: 100% – 100%), which was significantly higher than that achieved by RF-metagenomics (AUC = 58.48%, 95% CI: 38.46% – 78.5%). Campylobacter concisus and taurocholate showed significant positive correlation in patients with clinical manifestations (P & lt; 0.05). Actinobacteria levels were significantly higher in untreated patients than in treated patients (P & lt; 0.05). Campylobacter and Veillonella levels were significantly higher in treated patients than in healthy controls (P  & lt; 0.05). We identified major alterations in the gut microbiota and serum metabolome of patients with B-CS. Faecal metagenomics- and serum metabolomics-guided management strategies are required for patients with B-CS.

Kurzfassung: The excessive use of antibiotics speeds up the dissemination and aggregation of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in the environment. The ARGs have been regarded as a contaminant of serious environmental threats on a global scale. The constant increase in aquaculture production has led to extensive use of antibiotics as a means to prevent and treat bacterial infections; there is a universal concern about the environmental risk of ARGs in the aquaculture environment. In this study, a survey was conducted to evaluate the abundance and distributions of 10 ARGs, bacterial community, and environmental factors in sediment samples from aquatic farms distributed in Anhui (AP1, AP2, and AP3), Fujian (FP1, FP2, and FP3), Guangxi (GP1, GP2, and GP3), Hainan (HP1, HP2, and HP3), and Shaanxi (SP1, SP2, and SP3) Province in China. The results showed that the relative abundance of total ARGs was higher in AP1, AP2, AP3, FP3, GP3, HP1, HP2, and HP3 than that in FP1, FP2, GP1, GP2, SP1, SP2, and SP3. The sul1 and tetW genes of all sediment samples had the highest abundance. The class 1 integron ( intl1 ) was detected in all samples, and the result of Pearson correlation analysis showed that the intl1 has a positive correlation with the sul1 , sul2 , sul3 , bla OXA , qnrS , tetM , tetQ , and tetW genes. Correlation analysis of the bacterial community diversity and environmental factors showed that the Ca 2+ concentration has a negative correlation with richness and diversity of the bacterial community in these samples. Of the identified bacterial community, Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, Chloroflexi, and Bacteroidota were the predominant phyla in these samples. Redundancy analysis showed that environmental factors (TN, TP, Cl – , and Ca 2+ ) have a positive correlation with the bacterial community (AP1, GP1, GP2, GP3, SP1, SP2, and SP3), and the abundance of ARGs ( sul1 , tetW , qnrS , and intl1 ) has a positive correlation with the bacterial community (AP2, AP3, HP1, HP2, and HP3). Based on the network analysis, the ARGs ( sul1 , sul2 , bla CMY , bla OXA , qnrS , tetW , tetQ , tetM , and intl1 ) were found to co-occur with bacterial taxa from the phyla Chloroflexi, Euryarchaeota, Firmicutes, Halobacterota, and Proteobacteria. In conclusion, this study provides an important reference for understanding the environmental risk associated with aquaculture activities in China.
