In sehr anschaulicher und gut lesbarer Weise setzt sich der studierte Philosoph und Biologe M. Hampe (zum Autor vgl. zuletzt "Alfred North Whitehead", BA 1/99) mit dem Phänomen Zufall und dessen Bedeutung für unser Leben auseinander. Seine Grundthese lautet, dass die Menschen immer schon versucht haben, Zufälligkeiten zu vermeiden und auszuschalten, um so ihre Macht über das Naturgeschehen zunehmend zu erweitern. Würden natürliche Abläufe und rationalen Planungen von Zufällen durchbrochen, so bedeute dies umgekehrt die Einschränkung der Verfügungsgewalt und der Verlust von Macht. Dieses Verhältnis von Kontinuität und Kontingenz und seine praktischen Auswirkungen auf die Lebenswelt verdeutlicht er an konkreten Beispielen: in Sagen und Mythen, in den Naturwissenschaften, in Kriegen, in Katastrophen, in Krankheiten, im Tod. - Im Unterschied zu anderen Titeln zum Thema wie z.B. "Alles Zufall" von S. Klein (BA 10/04) oder "Zufall und Notwendigkeit" von J. Monod (ID 45/96) keine konsistente Abhandlung, sondern anregende Reflexionen in Essay-Form. (3)
