Content: The monograph summarizes the results of medical research carried out in the Arctic and Antarctic by domestic and foreign ones. The results of ten-year observations of the health status of participants in the drifts of the North Pole research stations and Soviet Antarctic expeditions (1965-1973) have been widely used. The book covers a number of problems related to the nature of the central part of the Arctic basin and Antarctica, the conditions of life support for polar explorers and the activities of the expedition's doctors. The paper presents the specific features of human adaptation to extreme environmental conditions. Considerable attention is paid to the health status of wintering participants, the peculiarities of the course of diseases of polar explorers, the organization of medical and sanitary support for Arctic and Antarctic expeditions. The monograph is intended for doctors, station leaders, detachments and specialists working in the Arctic, Antarctic, high-mountain regions of the USSR, as well as in similar conditions in the Far North, Far East, BAM, etc.
