Abstract: In order to inhibit the Gd/Ba substitution in the growth process effectively, a series of single domain GdBCO bulk superconductors with different ratios of BaO additions in the solid phase pellet is successfully fabricated by the modified top seeded infiltration growth technique on the basis of previous research. In the present work, the macroscopic feature, microstructure and critical current density (Jc) of the single domain GdBCO bulk superconductor are investigated in detail. From the top view of the surface of the single domain GdBCO bulk superconductor, all of the samples exhibit clearly the fourfold growth sector boundaries on their top surfaces, and spontaneous satellite grains are observed in none of these samples. It can be seen that the different ratio of BaO addition (from 1 wt% to 4 wt%) cannot affect the growth morphology of the single domain GdBCO bulk superconductor. At the same time, for observations of the microstructure, the small test specimens of dimensions about 2 mm2 mm2 mm are cut from the top surface of the singe domain GdBCO bulk superconductors with different BaO doping ratios and at a distance 5 mm away from the seed, then microstructure analysis is performed in the cleavage phane of the test specimen by using scanning electron microscope. For the sample with 1 wt% BaO doping, the derivative phase of GdBCO (Gd123ss) is found in the Gd123 superconducting matrix. To detect the atomic ratio of the Gd123ss, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry measurement is carried out on the samples. It is shown that the atomic ratio of the Gd123ss phase is Gd:Ba:Cu=1.566:1.459:3, which proves successfully that the Gd123ss is a kind of phase with lack of barium. With the increase of BaO doping, the phenomenon of lack of barium is effectively controlled and, the nano Gd123ss phase is generated as the flux pinning centre which can be used to improve the superconducting properties in the growth process of GdBCO bulk superconductor. This results can be concluded that the proper doping ratio can control the element substitution effectively, and the solid solution phase can be greatly reduced to some extent, and the critical current can be improved to a certain extent when the amount of BaO added ranges from 2 wt% to 4 wt%, which is very helpful in inhibiting the Gd/Ba substitution and fabricating the high-quality single domain GdBCO bulk superconductors.

Abstract: This paper deals with L2—L∞ control for leader-following coordination of second-order multi-agent systems with external disturbance and time-delay on fixed topology. In practical applications, the peak value of the controlled output is often required to be within a certain range and the ranges of the position and the velocity are different, so we introduce the weighted coefficients for the controlled outputs of the position and the velocity separately. Then, we obtain a multi-agent system of the model.Based on the Lyapunov-Krasovskii theory, both networks with and without time-delay are analyzed for leader-following corrdination of the position vector and the velocity vector with the desired L2—L∞ performance. Furthermore, sufficient conditions in terms of bilinear matrix inequality are given to guarantee the consensus problems for the multi-agent systems with and without time-delay sparately. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to show the effectiveness of our strategies.

Abstract: Targeting the flowing of insoluble surfactant-laden film over topography substrate, the lubrication theory is adopted to derive the evolution equations of thin liquid film thickness and interfacial surfactant concentration. The flowing characteristics of the film on topography surfaces, and the influence of topography structure are examined based on the numerical simulation with PDECOL code. The results show that when the thin film of insoluble surfactant flows over periodic grooving topography, the depression appears at the negative step, while the ridge is shaped at the positive step, both of which increase gradually with time going by. Compared with the case of the flat base, the surfactant-laden film spreading speed is enhanced. Increasing the groove depth or reducing the groove steepness leads to the increase of the rupture possibility of the film. Improving the groove width promotes the film flowing. The decrease of the steepness can cause the film to form a ridge feature before entering into the first groove. Gravity has the opposite effects on the up-hilling and down-hilling processes of liquid film flow, which causes the flow stability to deteriorate. Conjoining pressure induced by intermolecular forces can accelerate the film, giving rise to a notable dewetting phenomenon, while disjoining pressure has an adverse effect.

Abstract: The 252 rank completely diagonalized Hamiltonian matrix of the 3d5 configuration with trigonal symmetry have been established by group theory, crystal field theory and irreducible tensor operator method. The spectral fine structure, zero-field splitting parameters, and Jahn-Teller effect, as well s the influence of spin doublet state and spin quartet state on the ground-state energy levels in LiNbO3∶Fe3+ crystals were studied with this matrix. The results show that the contribution of spin quartet state on the ground- state energy levels is the most important, the contribution of spin doublet state is weak but can not be neglected. The calculated results are in good agreement with the experiments. On their basis, the influence of spin-orbit interaction and spin-spin interaction on the spectra fine structure and zero-field splitting parameters were further studied, and we found that the influence of spin-orbit interaction is dominant, but the influence of spin-spin interaction can not be neglected. The research shows this substance has J-T effect in the spectral structure of spin quartet state. The reason is the combined action of spin-orbit interaction and trigonal distortion.

Abstract: X-ray differential phase contrast imaging technology can reveal the weakly absorbing fine structure which cannot be observed by the conventional X-ray absorption contrast imaging. Hence, it has potential applications in many fields such as medical science, and material science. But in the traditional X-ray grating differential phase contrast imaging system, the analyser grating is used as a spatial filter, and needs to be phase stepped, then multiple exposures are required for information extraction. Thus this leads to high-dose radiation exposure and low efficiency of X-ray utilization. All these disadvantages limit its application in various disciplines. In order to cope with the above issues, a new algorithm based on single-shot grating differential phase contrast imaging system without analyzer grating is proposed. In such a system the absorption, refraction and scattering information can be obtained from one projective image of the sample acquired by a high-resolution detector. The reliability of this new algorithm is confirmed by numerical simulation. Compared with the phase stepping algorithm, the proposed algorithm can provide very accurate and reliable information extraction results without requiring the grating period to match with detector pixel size. It facilitates the reduction of the radiation damage to sample. We emphasize that this method is highly compatible with the future X-ray phase contrast imaging clinical applications.

Abstract: Perfect absorbing metamaterial based on model of metallic dendritic cell is fabricated. A S-wave band microstrip antenna with perfect absorbing metamaterial substrate is proposed. The results show that compared to the conventional microstrip antenna, the performance of the novel microstrip antenna with perfect absorbing metamaterial substrate has improved remarkably. The direction of the antenna is enhanced, the gain is improved by 1.8dB and its efficiency is increased by 51%. It is proved that the performance of the microstrip antenna is improved by using perfect absorbing metamaterial as its substrate.

Abstract: The geometrical structures of adsorbed aluminum atoms on different sites of undoped and boron (nitrogen)-doped single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were optimized using plane wave pseudopotential method with generalized gradient approximation based upon the density functional theory. The band structures, density of states, electron density difference,Mulliken population, adsorption energies of both undoped and boron (nitrogen)-doped SWCNTs were calculated theoretically. The results revealed that boron-doping enhances the adsorption energy Ea of Al on metallic (5,5) CNTs and semiconducting (8,0) CNTs by forming an electron-deficient structure filled with the electrons offered by Al atom. Meanwhile the results also suggest that nitrogen-doping increases Ea of Al on SWCNTs by forming electron-rich half-filled donor structure around Fermi level filled with the electrons of Al atom. Boron- and nitrogen-doping enhance the adsorption energy Ea by forming ionic-bond-type and covalent-bond-type bonds, respectively. The doping effect may also be beneficial to strengthening contact of interfaces between Al matrix and CNTs.

Abstract: Using the finite element analysis, we study the effect of variation in pressure-induced electrode position on the measurement accuracy of the sample conductivity in diamond anvil cell with the Van der Pauw method. The results show that the electrode contact placement and electrode size play key roles in influencing the conductivity measurement accuracy. Theoretical computation reveals that the Van der Pauw method can provide an accurate result when the spacing between electrode center and sample periphery b is less than or equal to d/9 (d is the sample diameter). Otherwise, the closer to the sample center of the contact location, the more rapidly the sample conductivity accuracy error increases. Such an effect is more significant for the semiconductor sample with high resistivity with the electrode position variation is the same.

Abstract: The transmission of 1.5 keV-electrons through a conical glass capillary is reported. This study aims to understand the so-called guiding effect for the negatively charged particles (e.g. electrons). The guiding mechanism is understood quite well with positively charged particles in particular highly charged ions, but not clear with electrons, i.e., even the basic scheme mediated by the existence of negative charge patches to guide the electrons is still somewhat controversial. The study of the charging-up dynamics causing the electrons transport inside the capillary will shed light on this issue. In order to perform this, a data acquisition system has been setup to follow the time evolution of the twodimensional angular distribution of the transmitted electrons. The electrons are detected by the multi-channel plate (MCP) detector with a phosphor screen. The image from the phosphor screen is recorded by a charge-coupled device camera. The timing signals for the detected events are extracted from the back stack of the MCP detector and recorded by the data acquisition system, synchronized with the acquired images. The electron beam has a size of 0.5 mm0.5 mm and a divergence of less than 0.35. The inner diameter of the straight part of the capillary is 1.2 mm and the exit diameter is 225 m. A small conducting aperture of 0.3 mm in diameter is placed at the entrance of the capillary. Two-dimensional angular distribution of the transmitted electrons through conical glass capillary and its time evolution are measured. The results show that the transmission rate decreases and reaches to a constant value for the completely discharged glass capillary with time going by. The centroid of the angular distribution moves to an asymptotic value while the width remains unchanged. These transmission characteristics are different from those indicated in our previous work (2016 Acta Phys. Sin. 65 204103). The difference originates from the different manipulations of the capillary outer surface. A conducting layer is coated on the outer surface of the capillary and grounded in this work. This isolates various discharge/charge channels and forms a new stable discharge channel. The transmission rate as a function of the tilt angle shows that the allowed transmission occurs at the tilt angle limited by the geometrical factors, i.e., the geometrical opening angle given by the aspect ratio as well as the beam divergence. The transmission characteristics suggest that most likely there are formed no negative patches to facilitate the electron transmission through the glass capillary at this selected beam energy. It is different from that of highly charged ions, where the formation of the charge patches prohibits the close collisions between the following ions and guides them out of the capillary.

Abstract: We report a single molecule study on cisplatin-induced DNA compaction. It is found that, at a small external tension (〈1 pN), the DNA compaction time course is irregular with many continuous shortening processes and abrupt large size jumps. The time course becomes smooth and hyperbolic when the external tension increases to a moderate value, which is not large enough to inhibit the compaction. The time course depends on the external tension rather than the concentration of cisplatin; the latter only influences the compaction rate. The results are consistent with a looping-and-cross-linking compaction model. Namely, in aqueous solutions, cisplatin forms both monoadducts and diadducts with DNA. When cisplatin induces distant cross-links between DNA bases, micro-loops are formed, which make DNA compact. Further cross-linking between the micro-loops leads to complete compaction of DNA. In addition, the compacted DNA structure is quite stable.
