    Abstract: The potentially pathogenic species of the genus Vibrio pose a threat to both humans and animals, creating medical burdens and economic losses to the mariculture industry. Improvements in surveillance and diagnosis are needed to successfully manage vibriosis outbreaks. Matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) can provide rapid diagnosis and has been widely used in the identification of Vibrio spp. The main weakness of this technology is the limited number of strains and species of Vibrio in the existing commercial database. Here, we develop a new in-house database named PVBase containing 790 main spectra projections (MSP) of ten Vibrio species that come from various regions of China and include abundant clinical and environmental strains. PVBase was validated through a blind test of 65 Vibrio strains. The identification accuracy and scoring of Vibrio strains was greatly improved through the addition of PVBase. Identification accuracy increased from 73.4 to 100%. The number of strains with identification scores above 2.2 increased from 53.1% to 96.9% and 53.1% of strains had an identification score above 2.59. Moreover, perfect discrimination was obtained when using all of the MSPs created for the Vibrio species, even for very closely related species such as V. cholerae , V. albensis , and V. mimicus or V. alginolyticus , V. parahaemolyticus , and V. harveyi . In addition, we used phyloproteomic analysis to study whether there are differences in protein fingerprints of different regions or pathogenic strains. We found that MSP characteristics of Vibrio species were not related to their region or source. With the construction of PVBase, the identification efficiency of potentially pathogenic Vibrio species has been greatly improved, which is an important advance for epidemic prevention and control, and aquaculture disease detection.

    Abstract: Leaves start to develop at the peripheral zone of the shoot apical meristem. Thereafter, symmetric and flattened leaf laminae are formed. These events are simultaneously regulated by auxin, transcription factors, and epigenetic regulatory factors. However, the relationships among these factors are not well known. In this study, we conducted protein-protein interaction assays to show that our previously reported Leaf and Flower Related (LFR) physically interacted with SWI3B, a component of the ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling SWI/SNF complex in Arabidopsis. The results of truncated analysis and transgenic complementation showed that the N-terminal domain (25–60 amino acids) of LFR was necessary for its interaction with SWI3B and was crucial for LFR functions in Arabidopsis leaf development. Genetic results showed that the artificial microRNA knockdown lines of SWI3B ( SWI3B-amic ) had a similar upward-curling leaf phenotype with that of LFR loss-of-function mutants. ChIP-qPCR assay was conducted to show that LFR and SWI3B co-targeted the promoters of YABBY1 / FILAMENTOUS FLOWER ( YAB1 / FIL ) and IAA carboxyl methyltransferase 1 ( IAMT1 ), which were misexpressed in lfr and SWI3B-amic mutants. In addition, the association between LFR and the FIL and IAMT1 loci was partly hampered by the knockdown of SWI3B . These data suggest that LFR interacts with the chromatin-remodeling complex component, SWI3B, and influences the transcriptional expression of the important transcription factor, FIL , and the auxin metabolism enzyme, IAMT1 , in flattened leaf lamina development.

    Abstract: Currently, few studies have explored the heterogeneity of symptoms and functions in patients with breast cancer. This study aimed to identify the subgroups of symptoms and functions in women receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer and determine whether the subgroups differed in demographic and clinical characteristics. Methods A cross-sectional multicenter survey involving five hospitals in Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong, and Guangxi provinces of Mainland China was implemented between August 2020 to December 2021. Participants completed questionnaires that included the PROMIS-57, PROMIS cognitive function short form, and demographic and clinical characteristics. Latent class analysis was performed, followed by chi-square test and analysis of variance. Subsequently, significant variables were included in multinomial logistic regression. Results A total of 1,180 patients were investigated, with an average age of 48.9 years. Three classes were identified: low symptom burdens and functions group (26.2%, Class 1), moderate symptom burdens and functions group (16.9%, Class 2), and low symptom burdens and high functions group (56.9%, Class 3). Compared with patients in Class 1 and 3, those in Class 2 consistently showed a higher tendency of having urban employee health insurance (odds ratio = 2.506, P & lt; 0.05) and rural health insurance (odds ratio = 2.207, P & lt; 0.05). Additionally, patients in Class 2 tended to be in their fourth cycle of chemotherapy. However, receiving chemotherapy and surgery increased the likelihood of belonging to Class 1. Conclusions A high proportion of patients experienced varying degrees of symptom and function issues, suggesting that attention is warranted for women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Patients with the urban employee basic medical system, the new rural cooperative medical system and in the early stage of chemotherapy cycles were more likely to have symptom burdens. Middle-aged postmenopausal women reported varying degrees of cognitive issues. Additionally, surgery increased the presence of potential long-term effects in functional levels.

    Abstract: An elevated concentration of phosphorus is associated with an increased risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases. Common carotid artery intima–media thickness (cIMT) is an imaging marker of atherosclerosis. However, data on the relationship between phosphorus and cIMT in ischemic stroke are scarce. We aimed to evaluate the association between serum phosphorus levels and cIMT in patients who had experienced ischemic stroke. Patients and methods A total of 1,450 ischemic stroke patients were enrolled. Participants were divided into four groups (quartiles) according to baseline serum phosphorus level. Carotid atherosclerosis was identified by measurement of cIMT; abnormal cIMT was defined as a maximum cIMT or mean cIMT ≥ 1 mm. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to assess the association between serum phosphorus level and the presence of abnormal cIMT. Results In the multivariable adjusted analysis, falling into the highest quartile for serum phosphorus (Q4) was associated with a 2.00-fold increased risk of having abnormal maximum cIMT [adjusted odds ratio (OR) 2.00; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.44–2.79] and a 1.76-fold increased risk of having abnormal mean cIMT (adjusted OR 1.76; 95% CI 1.22–2.53) in comparison to Q1. Furthermore, the association between serum phosphorus and abnormal cIMT was confirmed in analyses treating serum phosphorus as a continuous variable and in subgroup analyses. Conclusion In acute ischemic stroke patients, baseline elevated serum phosphorus level was found to be independently associated with carotid atherosclerosis, as measured by cIMT.

    Abstract: Silicon (Si)-based anode materials have been the promising candidates to replace commercial graphite, however, there are challenges in the practical applications of Si-based anode materials, including large volume expansion during Li + insertion/deinsertion and low intrinsic conductivity. To address these problems existed for applications, nanostructured silicon materials, especially Si-based materials with three-dimensional (3D) porous structures have received extensive attention due to their unique advantages in accommodating volume expansion, transportation of lithium-ions, and convenient processing. In this review, we mainly summarize different synthesis methods of porous Si-based materials, including template-etching methods and self-assembly methods. Analysis of the strengths and shortages of the different methods is also provided. The morphology evolution and electrochemical effects of the porous structures on Si-based anodes of different methods are highlighted.

    Abstract: The Shanghai high-repetition-rate XFEL and extreme light facility (SHINE) plans to install several elliptically polarizing undulators (EPUs) as afterburners behind the planar undulator section to obtain nearly saturated circularly polarized free-electron laser (FEL) radiation. Therefore, the SHINE R & amp;D project needs to develop a 4-m-long EPU with an effective magnetic field of 1.5 T, a period of 68 mm, and a minimum gap of 3 mm. A magnetic force compensation EPU prototype has recently been built and tested at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) based on the addition of permanent magnets. This prototype can realize magnetic compensation under various polarization modes in all working gaps, thereby reducing the deformation of the girders and maintaining sufficient rigidity of the mechanical structure. A girder deformation monitoring system was established to obtain real force compensation feedback. The final magnetic field measurement results meet the physical requirements, and the proposed scheme can be used as an alternative to the EPU with a high magnetic field and large magnetic force.

    Abstract: Tai Chi Chuan (TCC) is an effective method for delaying cognitive decline in older adults. However, in older adults, the association between long-term TCC practice and working memory updating has not been extensively studied. Objective This cross-sectional study investigated how updating function operationalized via Reaction Times (RTs) and Accuracy Rates (ARs) of N-Back tasks being measured in a laboratory setting is related to long term practice of TCC. Methods Twenty-six healthy elderly people participated in this experiment. According to the duration of time TCC was practiced, 13 subjects in the TCC group had more than 5 years of experience with TCC exercise, and 13 elderly subjects who had not been systematically exposed to mind-body exercise were assigned to the control group. The N-back task was administered to every participant to evaluate the updating function. Results The TCC group had faster RTs than the control group ( p & lt; 0.05). For the 1-back task, the TCC group showed faster RTs than the control group; for the 2-back task, the TCC group exhibited faster RTs than the control group. The TCC group had higher ARs than the control group ( p & lt; 0.05). For the 1-back task, the TCC group showed higher ARs than the control group; for the 2-back task, the TCC group exhibited higher ARs than the control group. Conclusions Long-term TCC practitioners exhibit a better updating function as compared to controls who did not practice TCC. Thus, our findings suggest that long-term TCC positively influences the updating function of older adults, making it, in turn, an effective mind-body exercise to maintain specific aspects of cognitive functioning.

    Abstract: The effects of substitution of BaF 2 for BaO on physical properties and 1. 8 μm emission have been systematically investigated to improve spectroscopic properties in Tm 3+ doped gallium tellurite glasses for efficient 2.0 μm fiber laser. It is found that refractive index and density gradually decrease with increasing BaF 2 content from 0 to 9 mol.%, due to the generation of more non-bridging oxygens. Furthermore, OH − absorption coefficient (α OH ) reduces monotonically from 3.4 to 2.2 cm −1 and thus emission intensity near 1.8 μm in gallium tellurite glass with 9 mol.% BaF 2 is 1.6 times as large as that without BaF 2 while the lifetime becomes 1.7 times as long as the one without BaF 2 . Relative energy transfer mechanism is proposed. The maximum emission cross section and gain coefficient at around 1.8 μm of gallium tellurite glass containing 9 mol.% BaF 2 are 8.8 × 10 −21 cm 2 and 3.3 cm −1 , respectively. These results indicate that Tm 3+ doped gallium tellurite glasses containing BaF 2 appear to be an excellent host material for efficient 2.0 μm fiber laser development.
