    Abstract: The direct impact of smartphones on health risk behaviors of adolescent students has been verified. However, the mediating mechanisms that underly this relationship remain largely unknown. Therefore, the aim of the study is to explore the role of family health in mediating the relationship between the frequency of smartphone use and adolescent students’ health risk behaviors. A questionnaire was used to collect cross-sectional data from 693 adolescent students aged 12–18 in China and a structural equation model was analyzed. Among the nine health risk behaviors, the most frequent health risk behaviors in Chinese adolescent students were non-compliance walking behaviors (M=Mean; SD = Standard deviation) (M ± SD) (2.78 ± 1.747), eating unhygienic food (M ± SD) (2.23 ± 1.299), being subjected to physical violence (M ± SD) (2.19 ± 0.645), and leaving home (M ± SD) (2.13 ± 0.557). The SEM results showed that the adolescent students’ smartphone use had a positive impact on delaying the age of first alcohol consumption (β = 0.167, CI:0.067 0.287) and a negative impact on the non-compliance walking behaviors (β = 0.176, CI:0.011 0.266). Family health plays an indirect-only mediated role (the proportions of indirect-only mediated roles are 11.2%, 12.4%, and 11.5%) in the relationship between smartphone use and adolescent students’ partial health risk behaviors: (CI: −0.042 −0.002), (CI: −0.049 −0.005), and (CI: −0.043 −0.002). These findings provided a theoretical and practical basis for better interventions in adolescent health risk behaviors.

    Abstract: In humans, four small HERCs (HERC3-6) exhibit differential degrees of antiviral activity toward HIV-1. Recently we revealed a novel member HERC7 of small HERCs exclusively in non-mammalian vertebrates and varied copies of herc7 genes in distinct fish species, raising a question of what is the exact role for a certain fish herc7 gene. Here, a total of four herc7 genes (named HERC7a–d sequentially) are identified in the zebrafish genome. They are transcriptionally induced by a viral infection, and detailed promoter analyses indicate that zebrafish herc7c is a typical interferon (IFN)-stimulated gene. Overexpression of zebrafish HERC7c promotes SVCV (spring viremia of carp virus) replication in fish cells and concomitantly downregulates cellular IFN response. Mechanistically, zebrafish HERC7c targets STING, MAVS, and IRF7 for protein degradation, thus impairing cellular IFN response. Whereas the recently-identified crucian carp HERC7 has an E3 ligase activity for the conjugation of both ubiquitin and ISG15, zebrafish HERC7c only displays the potential to transfer ubiquitin. Considering the necessity for timely regulation of IFN expression during viral infection, these results together suggest that zebrafish HERC7c is a negative regulator of fish IFN antiviral response.

    Abstract: In spite of the fact that the interactions between environmental parameters and prokaryotic and viral abundance have been explored in various aquatic environments, only a few independent estimates of viral production and decay in the estuarine region have been explored. In this study, data were analyzed for viral and prokaryotic abundance, viral production, and viral decay in a subtropical Danshui estuary in summer 2021. Prokaryotic abundance varied from 2.4 ± 0.6 × 105 to 12 ± 2.3 × 105 cells mL−1, and viral abundance ranged from 2.3 ± 0.9 × 105 to 6.9 ± 1.3 × 105 viruses mL−1 during the study period. Viral abundance was significantly correlated with prokaryotic abundance and chlorophyll a concentration. Furthermore, studies of changes in viral to prokaryotic abundance ratio (VPR) ranged from 0.42 ± 0.11 to 2.0 ± 0.25. Viral decay values were 2.1 ± 0.5 and 2.1 ± 0.3 × 104 virus mL−1h−1, and non-significant differences were observed between the inner estuary and coastal water region. Viral decay almost balanced gross viral production in this study. The dilution experiments revealed non-significant net viral production in July; thus, a lower VPR might be explained in this estuarine environment.

    Abstract: The dry aboveground biomass (AGB) is an important parameter in assessing crop growth and predicting yield. This study aims to ascertain the optimal methods for the spectroscopic estimation of winter oilseed rape (WOR) biomass. The different fertilizer-N gradients WOR were planted to collect biomass data and canopy hyperspectral data in two years of field experiments. Correlation analyses and partial least squares regression (PLSR) were performed between canopy hyperspectral data and AGB, and the linear and non-linear regression models simulated the quantitative relation between the vegetation indices (VIs) and AGB at four different growth stages (seeding, bolting, flowering, and pod stage). The results indicated that VIs that were derived from canopy hyperspectral data could estimate AGB accurately: (1) At the seeding and bolting stage, the CIred edge showed excellent performance with the higher accuracy (R2 ranged from 0.60–0.95) as compared to the other six VIs (Green chlorophyll index (CIgreen), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), Green normalized difference vegetation index (GNDVI), ratio vegetation index (RVI), DVI, and soil adjusted vegetation index (SAVI)); (2) Correlation analyses and PLSR can effectively extract the feature wavelengths (800 nm and 1200 nm) for biomass estimation. The modified vegetation indices NDVI (800, 1200) significantly improved AGB estimation accuracy (R2 〉 0.80, RMSE 〈 1530 kg/hm2, RPD 〉 2.3) without saturation phenomenon at the total for four stages, and retained good robustness and reduced the influence of flower and pod for estimating AGB; (3) it was vital to pay more attention to the near-infrared (NIR) bands that could represent WOR growth phenology, and selecting suitable VIs and modeling algorithms could also have a relatively large effect on the success of AGB estimation. The overall results indicated that WOR AGB could be reliably estimated by canopy hyperspectral data, although the plant architecture and coverage of WOR were significantly different during its entire growing period.

    Abstract: The present preparation methods of molybdenum dioxide (MoO2) quantum dots (QDs) are often cumbersome and not environmentally friendly, and more importantly, the prepared MoO2 QDs are usually wrapped in surfactants, which are difficult to be removed and impact their intrinsic characterization and performance. Herein, we present a facile, scalable and sustainable approach to obtain clean and pure MoO2 QDs (1.5~3 nm), which consists of a hydrothermal reaction and a further calcination process in vacuum following freeze drying. Furthermore, the influence of calcination temperature, atmosphere and time is also studied. The calcination at 400 °C for 2 h in vacuum can efficiently remove the surfactants wrapping on the MoO2 QDs without obvious size change, whereas the calcination in nitrogen will lead to a slight increase in size, and the calcination in air could transform MoO2 QDs into MoO3 nanoplates. In addition, the pseudocapacitive performance of the as-prepared samples is tested and compared by electrochemical methods, and the specific capacitance of the clean MoO2 QDs is about 1.4 times larger than that of MoO2 QDs with surfactants at 5 mV s−1. This study also demonstrates a possible way to efficiently remove the organic substance wrapping on quantum dot materials.

    Abstract: Accurate monitoring of hybrid rice phenology (RP) is crucial for breeding rice cultivars and controlling fertilizing amount. The aim of this study is to monitor the exact date of hybrid rice initial heading stage (IHSDAS) based on low-altitude remote sensing data and analyze the influence factors of RP. In this study, six field experiments were conducted in Ezhou city and Lingshui city from 2016 to 2019, which involved different rice cultivars and nitrogen rates. Three low-altitude remote sensing platforms were used to collect rice canopy reflectance. Firstly, we compared the performance of normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and red edge chlorophyll index (CIred edge) for monitoring RP. Secondly, double logistic function (DLF), asymmetric gauss function (AGF), and symmetric gauss function (SGF) were used to fit time-series CIred edge for acquiring phenological curves (PC), the feature: maximum curvature (MC) of PC was extracted to monitor IHSDAS. Finally, we analyzed the influence of rice cultivars, N rates, and air temperature on RP. The results indicated that CIred edge was more appropriate than NDVI for monitoring RP without saturation problem. Compared with DLF and AGF, SGF could fit CIred edge without over fitting problem. MC of SGF_CIred edge from all three platforms showed good performance in monitoring IHSDAS with good robustness, R2 varied between 0.82 and 0.95, RMSE ranged from 2.31 to 3.81. In addition, the results demonstrated that high air temperature might cause a decrease of IHSDAS, and the growth process of rice was delayed when more nitrogen fertilizer was applied before IHSDAS. This study illustrated that low-altitude remote sensing technology could be used for monitoring field-scale hybrid rice IHSDAS accurately.

    Abstract: Accurate estimation of above ground biomass (AGB) is very important for crop growth monitoring. The objective of this study was to estimate rice biomass by utilizing structural and meteorological features with widely used spectral features. Structural features were derived from the triangulated irregular network (TIN), which was directly built from structure from motion (SfM) point clouds. Growing degree days (GDD) was used as the meteorological feature. Three models were used to estimate rice AGB, including the simple linear regression (SLR) model, simple exponential regression (SER) model, and machine learning model (random forest). Compared to models that do not use structural and meteorological features (NDRE, R2 = 0.64, RMSE = 286.79 g/m2, MAE = 236.49 g/m2), models that include such features obtained better estimation accuracy (NDRE*Hcv/GDD, R2 = 0.86, RMSE = 178.37 g/m2, MAE = 127.34 g/m2). This study suggests that the estimation accuracy of rice biomass can benefit from the utilization of structural and meteorological features.

    Abstract: Background: The relationship between prediagnosis depression, anxiety symptoms, and ovarian cancer (OC) survival is unknown. We aimed to explore these associations to provide further epidemiological evidence. Methods: We investigated the relationship between prediagnosis depression, anxiety symptoms, and OC survival in a prospective cohort study of newly diagnosed OC patients aged 18–79 years. Depression and anxiety symptoms were assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire 9 and Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7 at diagnosis, respectively. Deaths were ascertained until 31 March 2021 via medical records and active follow-up. Multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional hazards regression was used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) with prediagnosis depression and anxiety symptoms and all-cause mortality of OC. Results: We found 56 (9.4%) and 235 (39.3%) OC patients with depression and anxiety symptoms, respectively. During a median follow-up of 37.2 months (interquartile range 24.7–50.2 months), 130 deaths were confirmed. Compared with non-depression symptoms, patients with prediagnosis depressive symptoms showed a significantly increased risk of OC mortality (HR = 2.10, 95% CI: 1.20–3.70). Of note, the association was still robust when focusing on the OC patients with severe depressive symptoms (HR = 2.10, 95% CI: 1.07–4.12). However, we observed no association between prediagnosis anxiety symptoms of different severity and OC mortality. Interestingly, OC patients with combined moderate depression and anxiety symptoms had a significantly increased risk of OC mortality (HR = 3.23, 95% CI: 1.14–9.11) compared to those with no symptoms of depression and anxiety. Notably, Wilms’s tumor 1 was significantly associated with depression and anxiety symptoms (p 〈 0.05). Conclusions: Prediagnosis depression increases the risk of OC mortality. Large multicenter studies are required to confirm this finding.

    Abstract: The present study assessed the willingness of the general population to receive COVID-19 vaccines and identified factors that influence vaccine hesitancy and resistance. A national online survey was conducted from 29 January 2021 to 26 April 2021 in China. Multinomial logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify factors that influence vaccine hesitancy and resistance. Of the 34,041 participants surveyed, 18,810 (55.3%) were willing to get vaccinated, 13,736 (40.3%) were hesitant, and 1495 (4.4%) were resistant. Rates of vaccine acceptance increased over time, with geographical discrepancies in vaccine hesitancy and resistance between provinces in China. Vaccine safety was the greatest concern expressed by most participants (24,461 [71.9%]), and the major reason for participants’ refusing vaccination (974 [65.2%] ). Government agencies (23,131 [68.0%]) and social media (20,967 [61.6%] ) were the main sources of COVID-19 vaccine information. Compared with vaccination acceptance, female, young and middle-aged, high income, and perceived low-risk of infection were associated with vaccine hesitancy. Histories of allergic reactions to other vaccines and depression symptoms were related to vaccine resistance. Common factors that influenced vaccine hesitancy and resistance were residing in cities and perceiving less protection with vaccines than with other protective measures. The results indicate that the rate of vaccine resistance is relatively low, but vaccine hesitancy is common. Individuals who are female, young and middle-aged, with a high income, and residing in cities are more likely to be hesitant for vaccination and should be the target populations for vaccination campaigns. Specific vaccine messaging from the government and social media could alleviate public concerns about vaccine safety and efficacy.
