    Abstract: To understand the contribution of different sub-assemblages (sub-communities) in the shrub and herb layers to the distribution patterns of community species richness and the stability of the Pinus massoniana Lamb. community, this study was carried out by using 160 shrub quadrats (5 m × 5 m) and 200 herb quadrats (1 m × 1 m). These quadrats were selected from 40 plots on six islands. In this study, common and rare species were classified according to the frequency, and “new communities” (sub-communities) were formed by adding or removing species. Then the changes of species richness and community stability in the “new communities” were analyzed. A redundancy analysis was also used to explore the factors affecting the size of the species richness in the understory of the Pinus massoniana community. The results showed the following: (1) The distribution patterns of both shrub and herb layer species frequencies in this area were plainly to the right, indicating a large proportion of non-common species (common species accounting for 37.87% in the shrub layer and 16.67% in the herb layer). (2) The higher the frequency of species, the greater their contribution to the pattern of species richness. Common species had a high frequency and were the most important contributors to the patterns of species richness in plant communities (64 common species and 41 most common species in the shrub layer and 10 common species in the herb layer each accounted for 95.72, 88.9, and 90.52%, respectively, of the species richness distribution pattern). However, rare species also made significant contributions to the species richness in regions with hard conditions (the (most) rare species in the herb layer explained more than 70% of the species richness distribution pattern, and the remaining species after removing the (most) common species explained more than 90%). (3) In relatively stable communities, rare species had relatively little influence on the stability of the community, which was mostly governed by the dominant species (common species (10 species) were more stable than rare species (38 species), Exc.-rare species (22 species) were more stable than except-common species (50 species), and Exc.-rarest species (35 species) were more stable than Exc.-most common species (55 species) in the herb layer). In less stable communities, the stability of the community gradually increased with the increase in species richness, which may be associated with the growth habit of the increased species (the stability of the herb layer was higher than that of the shrub layer, as shown by the Euclidean distance). The community stability was determined by not only the dominant species in the community but also the rare species that were important contributors to the stability of the communities. (4) The species richness of the shrub layer was considerably influenced (p-value 〈 0.05) by the soil pH, soil organic matter, and wind speed, whereas the species richness of the herb layer was significantly influenced (p-value 〈 0.05) by the soil pH. The greater the pH and wind speed, the greater the species richness in the island community. On islands, the soil stability was maintained in large part by the soil organic matter. The lack of soil organic matter can affect soil nutrients, destroy island habitats, and reduce species richness, all of which are harmful to the community stabilization.

    Abstract: This paper presents a high pulse energy, narrow linewidth, mid-infrared (MIR) laser at 6.45 μm, based on a BaGa4Se7 (BGSe) crystal optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped by 1.064 μm laser. The maximum pulse energy at 6.45 μm was up to 1.23 mJ, with a pulse width of 24.3 ns and repetition rate of 10 Hz, corresponding to an optical–optical conversion efficiency of 2.1%, from pump light 1.064 μm to idler light 6.45 μm. The idler light linewidth was about 6.8 nm. Meanwhile, we accurately calculated the OPO phase-matching condition at BGSe crystal pumped by 1.064 μm laser, and a numerical simulation system was performed to analyze the input–output characteristics at 6.45 μm, as well as the effect of crystal length on the conversion efficiency. Good agreement was found between measurement and simulation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest pulse energy at 6.45 μm, with the narrowest linewidth for any all-solid-state MIR ns laser in BGSe-OPO pumped by simple 1.064 μm oscillator. This simple and compact 6.45 μm OPO system, with high pulse energy and narrow linewidth, can meet the requirements for tissue cutting and improve tissue ablation accuracy.

    Abstract: Grounded in self-determination theory, the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between autonomy-supportive teaching, mindfulness, and basic psychological need satisfaction/frustration. Secondary school students (n = 390, Mage = 15) responded to a survey form measuring psychological constructs pertaining to the research purpose. A series of multiple regression analysis showed that autonomy-supportive teaching and mindfulness positively predicted need satisfaction and negatively predicted need frustration. In addition, the associations between autonomy-supportive teaching and need satisfaction/frustration were moderated by mindfulness. Students higher in mindfulness were more likely to feel need satisfaction and less likely to experience need frustration, even in a low autonomy-supportive teaching environment. These results speak to the relevance of creating autonomy-supportive teaching environments and highlight mindfulness as a potential pathway to basic psychological need satisfaction in educational settings.

    Abstract: LCC and EL models have been widely used in recent years to determine the decommissioning life of equipment in energy companies, with LCC (life-cycle cost) being the total “lifetime” cost of the equipment from the time it is put into operation until the end of its decommissioning and disposal; the average annual cost of the equipment can be calculated based on the LCC. The overall LCC can be calculated as the average annual LCC, while the EL is the age of the equipment at which its average annual LCC is the lowest. It is believed that the decommissioning of the equipment in the EL year will result in the lowest annual average equipment turnover, thus maximizing the economic benefits of the equipment. Recently, LCC and EL research has been gradually introduced to the energy field, but there remains a lack of research depth. In current practice, energy equipment LCCs are mainly determined by selecting a portion of inventoried equipment to serve as a sample record for all costs incurred. The intent is to derive the economic life of the equipment-year by directly seeking its average annual cost, but this method tends to downplay maintenance, overhaul, and other cost events as “random small probability events”. This method is also incomplete for evaluating the decommissioning life of equipment whose average annual cost strictly decreases year-by-year. In this study, we analyzed the use of 75,220 KV transformers that were put into service by an energy company in 1986 as a case study (costs for this type of equipment were first recorded strictly in terms of LCC in 1986), used Isolated Forest (IF) to screen the outliers of various types of data costs, and then probability-corrected the corrected dataset with a Welbull distribution (Welbull). Then, we employed a stochastic simulation (MC) to calculate the LCC of the equipment and determined its economic lifetime (EL) and compared the results of the stochastic simulation method with those of the traditional method to provide a more reasonable explanation for the “small probability” of cost occurrences. Next, we predicted the average cost of the equipment given a use-period of 38-41-years using AHA, Bi-LSTM, and other comparative algorithms, compared the MAE, MAPE, and RMES indexes, selected the most suitable prediction model, and produced a predicted cost under the chosen method to obtain the economic life of the equipment. Finally, we compared our results with the design life of the equipment (design life being the technical life expectancy of a product based on the expectations of the manufacturer), and determined its best retirement age by comprehensively studying and judging the economic and technical benefits. The retirement age analysis was guided by by a comprehensive study of economic and technical benefits. We refer to our decommissioning life determination model as Monte Carlo -artificial hummingbird algorithm–BiLSTM–lifecycle cost model (MC-AHABi-LCC). We found that the decommissioning life obtained by MC-AHABi-LCC is closer to the actual equipment decommissioning life than that given by standard LCC and EL analysis and that our model is more accurate and scientific.

    Abstract: Tamoxifen resistance remains a challenge in hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancer. Recent evidence suggests that transfer ribonucleic acid (tRNA)-derived fragments play pivotal roles in the occurrence and development of various tumors. However, the relationship between tRNA-derived fragments and tamoxifen resistance remains unclear. In this study, we found that the expression of tRF-16-K8J7K1B was upregulated in tamoxifen-resistant cells in comparison with tamoxifen-sensitive cells. Higher levels of tRF-16-K8J7K1B were associated with shorter disease-free survival in HR+ breast cancer. Overexpression of tRF-16-K8J7K1B promotes tamoxifen resistance. Moreover, extracellular tRF-16-K8J7K1B could be packaged into exosomes and could disseminate tamoxifen resistance to recipient cells. Mechanistically, exosomal tRF-16-K8J7K1B downregulates the expression of apoptosis-related proteins, such as caspase 3 and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase, by targeting tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand in receptor cells, thereby reducing drug-induced cell apoptosis. Therapeutically, the inhibition of exosomal tRF-16-K8J7K1B increases the sensitivity of breast cancer cells to tamoxifen in vivo. These data demonstrate that exosomal tRF-16-K8J7K1B may be a novel therapeutic target to overcome tamoxifen resistance in HR+ breast cancer.

    Abstract: Volition is described as a psychological construct with great emphasis on the sense of agency. During volitional behavior, an individual always presents a volitional quality, an intrapersonal trait for dealing with adverse circumstances, which determines the individual’s persistence of action toward their intentions or goals. Elite athletes are a group of experts with superior volitional quality and, thereby, could be regarded as the natural subject pool to investigate this mental trait. The purpose of this study was to examine brain morphometric characteristics associated with volitional quality by using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and the Scale of Volitional Quality. We recruited 16 national-level athletes engaged in short track speed skating and 18 healthy controls matched with age and gender. A comparison of a parcel-wise brain anatomical characteristics of the healthy controls with those of the elite athletes revealed three regions with significantly increased cortical thickness in the athlete group. These regions included the left precuneus, the left inferior parietal lobe, and the right superior frontal lobe, which are the core brain regions involved in the sense of agency. The mean cortical thickness of the left inferior parietal lobe was significantly correlated with the independence of volitional quality (a mental trait that characterizes one’s intendency to control his/her own behavior and make decisions by applying internal standards and/or objective criteria). These findings suggest that sports training is an ideal model for better understanding the neural mechanisms of volitional behavior in the human brain.

    Abstract: The use of optical sensing for in vivo applications is compelling, since it offers the advantages of non-invasiveness, non-ionizing radiation, and real-time monitoring. However, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the optical signal deteriorates dramatically as the biological tissue increases. Although increasing laser power can improve the SNR, intense lasers can severely disturb biological processes and viability. Quantum sensing with bright squeezed light can make the measurement sensitivity break through the quantum noise limit under weak laser conditions. A bright squeezed light source is demonstrated to avoid the deterioration of SNR and biological damage, which integrates an external cavity frequency-doubled laser, a semi-monolithic standing cavity with periodically poled titanyl phosphate (PPKTP), and a balanced homodyne detector (BHD) assembled on a dedicated breadboard. With the rational design of the mechanical elements, the optical layout, and the feedback control equipment, a maximum non-classical noise reduction of −10.7 ± 0.2 dB is observed. The average squeeze of −10 ± 0.2 dB in continuous operation for 60 min is demonstrated. Finally, the intracavity loss of degenerate optical parametric amplifier (DOPA) and the initial bright squeezed light can be calculated to be 0.0021 and −15.5 ± 0.2 dB, respectively. Through the above experimental and theoretical analysis, the direction of improving bright squeeze level is pointed out.

    Abstract: Modification of cell wall polysaccharide in the plant plays an important role in response to fungi infection. However, the mechanism of fungi infection on cell wall modification need further clarification. In this study, the effects of Penicillium italicum inoculation on ‘shatangju’ mandarin disease development and the potential mechanism of cell wall polysaccharides modification caused by P. italicum were investigated. Compared to the control fruit, P. italicum infection modified the cell wall polysaccharides, indicated by water-soluble pectin (WSP), acid-soluble pectin (ASP), hemicellulose and lignin contents change. P. italicum infection enhanced the activities of polygalacturonase (PG), pectin methylesterase (PME), and the expression levels of xyloglucanendotransglucosylase/hydrolase (XTH) and expansin, which might contribute to cell wall disassembly and cellular integrity damage. Additionally, higher accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) via decreasing antioxidant metabolites and the activities of antioxidant enzymes including superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) also contributed to the cell wall polysaccharides modification. Meanwhile, the gene expression levels of hydroxyproline-rich glycoprotein (HRGP) and germin-like protein (GLP) were inhibited by pathogen infection. Altogether, these findings suggested that cell wall degradation/modification caused by non-enzymatic and enzymatic factors was an important strategy for P. italicum to infect ‘shatangju’ mandarin.
