Abstract: RV6Sn6 (R = Sc, Y, or rare earth) is a new family of kagome metals that have a similar vanadium structural motif as AV3Sb5 (A = K, Rb, Cs) compounds. Unlike AV3Sb5, ScV6Sn6 is the only compound among the series of RV6Sn6 that displays a charge density wave (CDW) order at ambient pressure, yet it shows no superconductivity (SC) at low temperatures. Here, we perform a high-pressure transport study on the ScV6Sn6 single crystal to track the evolutions of the CDW transition and to explore possible SC. In contrast to AV3Sb5 compounds, the CDW order of ScV6Sn6 can be suppressed completely by a pressure of about 2.4 GPa, but no SC is detected down to 40 mK at 2.35 GPa and 1.5 K up to 11 GPa. Moreover, we observed that the resistivity anomaly around the CDW transition undergoes an obvious change at ~2.04 GPa before it vanishes completely. The present work highlights a distinct relationship between CDW and SC in ScV6Sn6 in comparison with the well-studied AV3Sb5.

Abstract: Energy transition is a major structural change in the whole social system, and the energy system must be changed globally to replace fossil fuels. Hydropower is one of the largest sources of renewable energy in the world. However, owing to the construction of hydropower projects, involuntary resettlers are suffering from being far away from their native land, losing the land cultivated for generations and the houses they live in, and losing the social relationship network based on geography and blood ties. Based on the system evaluation theory of reservoir resettlement and referring to relevant research findings, this paper constructs a comprehensive evaluation index framework for assessing the implementation effect of the Post-Relocation Support (PReS) policy. The research region is located in Zhijin County, Bijie City, Guizhou Province, China. Accordingly, a combined method of a structural equation model and a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model is used in this paper to analyze the implementation of the PReS policy. The results show that the total score of implementing effects of the PReS policy is 4.4, with dramatic significance. The subindex scores of the resettlers’ family income, living conditions, and production conditions; the local economy; and social stability are 4.3, 4.6, 4.4, 4.6, and 4.3, respectively, with dramatic significance. This paper has analyzed and summarized the successful practices of implementing the PReS policy for reservoir resettlers in three dimensions: poverty alleviation, beautiful home construction, and accelerating rural revitalization. Research shows that China’s rural reservoir resettlers’ PReS policy has been more effective in restoring the livelihoods of reservoir resettlers.

Abstract: Advanced cascade design theories and methods are crucial to the rapid development of torque converters. Therefore, the study proposed a new parametric design method for a hydrodynamic torque converter cascade. The method is embodied by using a cubic non-uniform rational B-splines (NURBS) open curve and closed curve, respectively, to carry out the parametric design of the unit blade camberline and unit blade thickness distribution, and the curvature of the designed blade curve is continuous. Then, the author developed batch and script files in the Isight platform for a fully automated integrated design of the hydrodynamic torque converter, including cascade parametric modeling, meshing, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation, post-processing, and optimization design. A three-dimensional cascade integrated optimization design system of the hydrodynamic torque converter is established with CFD technology as the bottom layer design, a control file as the middle layer, and an optimization algorithm as the top layer drive. Finally, multi-objective optimization was carried out for the key cascade parameters (camberline peak height). Compared with the original blade, the optimized NURBS blade increased by 7.207% in high-efficiency region width (Gη), and the optimized blade increased by 2.673% in peak efficiency (ηmax) to meet the actual engineering requirements. The new parametric design method of the blade shape and the integrated optimization design system of a three-dimensional cascade of torque converter proposed in this paper significantly reduces the design costs and shortens the design cycle of the torque converter, which will provide a valuable reference for engineers of turbomachinery.

Abstract: Transverse thermoelectric materials can achieve appreciable cooling power with minimal space requirement. Among all types of material candidates for transverse thermoelectric applications, composite materials have the best cooling performance. In this study, anisotropic material properties were applied to the component phase of transverse thermoelectric composites. A mathematical model was established for predicting the performance of fibrous transverse thermoelectric composites with anisotropic components. The mathematical model was then validated by finite element analysis. The thermoelectric performance of three types of composites are presented, each with the same set of component materials. For each type of component, both anisotropic single-crystal and isotropic polycrystal material properties were applied. The results showed that the cooling capacity of the system was improved by introducing material anisotropy in the component phase of composite. The results also indicated that the orientation of the anisotropic component’s property axis, the anisotropic characteristic of a material, will significantly influence the thermoelectric performance of the composite. For a composite material consisting of Copper fiber and Bi2Te3 matrix, the maximum cooling capacity can vary as much as 50% at 300 K depending on the property axis alignment of Bi2Te3 in the composite. The composite with Copper and anisotropic SnSe single crystal had a 51% improvement in the maximum cooling capacity compared to the composite made of Copper and isotropic SnSe polycrystals.

Abstract: The vacuum tube transportation (VTT) system has been a promising direction of future transportation. Within this system, a high-speed maglev travels in a low-vacuum environment to reduce aerodynamic drag. However, the heat dissipation of on-board heating devices will be compromised under low-vacuum conditions, and the device performance may thus be lowered. This study investigates the low-vacuum conjugate heat transfer characteristic of a levitation electromagnet module of a maglev using an experimentally verified numerical method. During the heating process, the surface temperature distribution of the levitation electromagnet, and the temperature and velocity characteristics of the flow field are examined. It is found that, as the vacuum level increases from 1.0 atm to 0.1 atm, the total heat dissipating from the levitation electromagnet module is decreased by 49% at 60 min, the contribution of convection heat flux over the total heat flux is decreased from 49% to 17%, and the convection heat transfer coefficient of the levitation electromagnet is decreased by 89%. This study can provide an efficient numerical model for low-vacuum heat transfer study on a VTT system as well as help the evaluation and optimization of low-vacuum maglev thermal management systems.
