    Kurzfassung: The genus Maytenus is a member of the Celastraceae family, of which several species have long been used in traditional medicine. Between 1976 and 2021, nearly 270 new compounds have been isolated and elucidated from the genus Maytenus. Among these, maytansine and its homologues are extremely rare in nature. Owing to its unique skeleton and remarkable bioactivities, maytansine has attracted many synthetic endeavors in order to construct its core structure. In this paper, the current status of the past 45 years of research on Maytenus, with respect to its chemical and biological activities are discussed. The chemical research includes its structural classification into triterpenoids, sesquiterpenes and alkaloids, along with several chemical synthesis methods of maytansine or maytansine fragments. The biological activity research includes activities, such as anti-tumor, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory activities, as well as HIV inhibition, which can provide a theoretical basis for the better development and utilization of the Maytenus.

    Kurzfassung: In circumstances where total dissolved gas (TDG) levels are variable, the peak TDG and duration are expected to be the dominant drivers of fish survival. Focusing on the peak TDG and duration in natural rivers, a laboratory experiment and field experiments in the upper Yangtze River were conducted with Prenant’s Schizothoracin (Schizothorax prenanti), a rare species inhabiting the upper Yangtze River, to examine the tolerance characteristics of fish under varying gas supersaturation levels. The results of the field experiments showed that TDG supersaturation in natural rivers changed greatly during the flood period due to reservoir regulation. The survival of fish was affected by TDG levels, water depth and TDG fluctuation range. A high TDG level, and shallow compensatory water depth caused fish mortality in the field experiment to be higher in September than in July. The results of the laboratory experiment showed that fish tolerance was lower under fluctuating TDG supersaturation than under constant TDG supersaturation. The tolerance of fish to TDG supersaturation varied depending on peak TDG and duration. Under the fluctuation range of 115–125%, fish survival in the 6 h–6 h cycle was significantly different from that in the 8 h–8 h cycle. The fluctuation cycle did not affect fish survival at the fluctuation range of 110–130%. Intermittent lower TDG supersaturation does not significantly increase the tolerance of fish. This study revealed the tolerance characteristics of resident fish in the upper Yangtze River to TDG supersaturation, which provides a reference to the ecological operation of reservoirs and may contribute to the protection of aquatic organisms.

    Kurzfassung: There are at least five common mosquito-borne viruses (MBVs) recorded in Egypt, including dengue virus (DENV), Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV), West Nile virus (WNV), Chikungunya virus, and Sindbis virus. Unexpected outbreaks caused by MBVs reflect the deficiencies of the MBV surveillance system in Egypt. This systematic review characterized the epidemiology of MBV prevalence in Egypt. Human, animal, and vector prevalence studies on MBVs in Egypt were retrieved from Web of Science, PubMed, and Bing Scholar, and 33 eligible studies were included for further analyses. The monophyletic characterization of the RVFV and WNV strains found in Egypt, which spans about half a century, suggests that both RVFV and WNV are widely transmitted in this nation. Moreover, the seropositive rates of DENV and WNV in hosts were on the rise in recent years, and spillover events of DENV and WNV to other countries from Egypt have been recorded. The common drawback for surveillance of MBVs in Egypt is the lack of seroprevalence studies on MBVs, especially in this century. It is necessary to evaluate endemic transmission risk, establish an early warning system for MBVs, and develop a sound joint system for medical care and public health for managing MBVs in Egypt.

    Kurzfassung: Background: The advancement of Industry 4.0 technologies has affected every aspect of supply chains. Recently, enterprises have tried to create more value for their businesses by tapping into these new technologies. Warehouses have been one of the most critical sections in a supply chain affected by Industry 4.0 technologies. Methods: By recognizing the role of inventory management in a supply chain and its importance, this paper aims to highlight the impact of IoT technologies on inventory management in supply chains and conducts a comprehensive study to identify the research gap of applying IoT to inventory management. The trend and potential opportunities of applying IoT to inventory management in the Industry 4.0 era are explored by analyzing the literature. Results: Our findings show that the research on this topic is growing in various industries. A broad range of journals is paying particular attention to this topic and publishing more articles in this research direction. Conclusions: Upgrading a supply chain into an integrated supply chain 4.0 is beneficial. Given the changes in fourth-generation technology compared to previous generations, the approach of conventional inventory replenishment policies seems not responsive enough to new technologies and is not able to cope with IoT systems well.

    Kurzfassung: Background: Emergence delirium (ED) occurs immediately after emergence from general anesthesia, which may have adverse consequences. This cross-sectional survey assessed Chinese physicians’ and nurses’ knowledge of, attitudes towards, and practice regarding ED in adults. Methods: Electronic questionnaires were sent to 93 major academic hospitals across mainland China and both attending anesthesiologists and anesthesia nurses were recommended to complete them. Results: A total of 243 anesthesiologists and 213 anesthesia nurses participated in the survey. Most of the participants considered it a very important issue; however, less than one-third of them routinely assessed ED. In terms of screening tools, anesthesiologists preferred the Confusion Assessment Method, while anesthesia nurses reported using multiple screening tools. Divergence also appeared with regard to the necessity of monitoring the depth of anesthesia. Anesthesiologists considered it only necessary in high-risk patients, while the nurses considered that it should be carried out routinely. No unified treatment strategy nor medication was reported for ED treatment during the recovery period. Conclusions: This study illustrated that there are high awareness levels among both Chinese anesthesiologists and anesthesia nurses regarding the importance of ED. However, a specific practice in terms of routine delirium assessment, anesthesia depth monitoring, and a standardized treatment algorithm needs to be implemented to improve ED management.

    Kurzfassung: Laccases (EC 1.10.3.2) have been widely considered to participate in the metabolic processes of lignin synthesis, osmotic stress response, and flavonoid oxidation in higher plants. The research into Populus trichocarpa laccase focused on the synthesis of lignin in the past few years. In this study, for the first time, a comprehensive analysis of 53 laccase copies in the P. trichocarpa genome was conducted. Positive selection analysis using the branch-site model indicated that LAC genes in terrestrial plants have undergone selective pressure for adaptive evolution. On the basis of the phylogenetic relationship, we reconstructed the evolutionary process of terrestrial plant laccase and found that this gene family began to expand during the evolution of angiosperms. Tandem duplication is the main form of expansion of the PtLAC gene family. The analysis of the sequence characteristics, gene structure, expression pattern, and gene synonymous mutation rate of PtLACs provided a theoretical basis for the functional divergence of tandem duplicated genes. The synonymous mutation rate was used to quantify the divergence time of 11 tandem duplicated gene clusters. Cluster 2, with the earliest divergence time and lower share of sequence similarity, and cluster 5, with the latest divergence time and higher share of similarity, were selected in this study to explore the functional divergence of tandem-duplicated gene clusters. Tobacco subcellular localization and Arabidopsis transgenes verified the functional differentiation of PtLAC genes in cluster 2 and the functional non-differentiation of PtLAC genes in cluster 5. The results of this study provide a reference for the functional differentiation of tandem-duplicated PtLAC.

    Kurzfassung: To investigate changes in the yield and physiological characteristics of indica hybrid rice varieties sown on different dates, we evaluated appropriate hybrid rice varieties and their optimal sowing dates in the hilly areas of Sichuan. Three popular indica rice varieties were used as experimental materials, and five sowing dates were set uniformly locally [16 May (SD1), 23 May (SD2), 30 May (SD3), 6 June (SD4), and 13 June (SD5)] to investigate differences in the yield characteristics, growth period, and dry matter accumulation. The results showed that, over the two years, the sowing-to-heading period and overall growth period of the three varieties shortened as the sowing date was delayed, and the difference in yield between the SD1 and SD2 treatments was not significant, owing to higher material accumulation after flowering and higher assimilative material transport capacity. These varieties are both photosensitive and tolerant to low temperatures. Among the three varieties tested, the Huangyouyuehesimiao (V3) cultivar had the highest yield, with 10.75 t ha−1 under the SD2 treatment. The impact of shifting the sowing date on yield components varied. Delaying the sowing date increased and then decreased the number of effective panicles, and the number of grains per panicle and the seed setting rate decreased by differing degrees. In summary, a high yield of indica hybrid rice can be maintained by sowing between 16 and 23 May each year in the study area. It indicated that indica hybrid rice in the hilly rice-producing region of Sichuan is highly adaptable to different sowing dates.

    Kurzfassung: In this research, we proposed and experimentally verified a compact all-fiber sensor that can measure refractive index (RI) and temperature simultaneously. Two segments of hollow-core fiber (HCF) are connected to the two ends of the four-core fiber (FCF) as a beam splitter and a coupler, and then spliced with two sections of single-mode fibers (lead-in and lead-out SMF), respectively. The two hollow-core fibers can excite the higher-order modes of the four-core fiber and recouple the core modes and higher-order modes into the outgoing single-mode fiber, thereby forming inter-mode interference. The different response sensitivities of two interference dips to RI and temperature manifest that the proposed structure can achieve simultaneous measurement. From the experimental results, it can be seen that the maximum sensitivity of the sensor to RI and temperature is 275.30 nm/RIU and 94.4 pm/°C, respectively. When the wavelength resolution is 0.02 nm, the RI and temperature resolutions of the sensor are 7.74 × 10−5 RIU and 0.335 °C. The proposed dual-parameter optical sensor has the advantages of high sensitivities, good repeatability, simple fabrication, and structure. In addition, it has potential application value in multi-parameter simultaneous measurement.

    Kurzfassung: Low temperature remarkably limits rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg.) growth, latex production, and geographical distribution, but the underlying mechanisms of Hevea brasiliensis cold stress response remain elusive. Here, we identified HbSnRK2.6 as a key component in ABA signaling functions in phytohormone abscisic acid (ABA)-regulated cold stress response in Hevea brasiliensis. Exogenous application of ABA enhances Hevea brasiliensis cold tolerance. Cold-regulated (COR) genes in the CBF pathway are upregulated by ABA. Transcript levels of all five HbSnRK2.6 members are significantly induced by cold, while HbSnRK2.6A, HbSnRK2.6B, and HbSnRK2.6C can be further activated by ABA under cold conditions. Additionally, HbSnRK2.6s are localized in the cytoplasm and nucleus, and can physically interact with HbICE2, a crucial positive regulator in the cold signaling pathway. Overexpression of HbSnRK2.6A or HbSnRK2.6B in Arabidopsis extensively enhances plant responses to ABA and expression of COR genes, leading to increased cold stress tolerance. Furthermore, HbSnRK2.6A and HbSnRK2.6B can promote transcriptional activity of HbICE2, thus, increasing the expression of HbCBF1. Taken together, we demonstrate that HbSnRK2.6s are involved in ABA-regulated cold stress response in Hevea brasiliensis by regulating transcriptional activity of HbICE2.
