    Kurzfassung: The aim of this study is to identify the peri-procedural risk factors and outcomes of hemodynamic instability (HI) after carotid artery stenting (CAS). Methods A single-center, retrospective study was performed in 168 patients who underwent CAS procedure between September 2017 and September 2020. The presence of HI, as defined by hypertension (systolic blood pressure 〉 160 mmHg), hypotension (systolic blood pressure 〈 90 mmHg), and/or bradycardia (heart rate 〈 60 bpm), was recorded. Long-period HI was defined as persistent HI lasting more than 24 h. Patient demographics, comorbidities, peri-procedural variables, and risk factors were recorded. Clinical outcomes including cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome, hemorrhage, transient ischemic attack (TIA), stroke, myocardial infarction, and mortality within 30 days of the procedure were evaluated. Logistic regression was used to analyze the independent risk factors of long-period HI following CAS. Results Among 168 patients (mean age, 68.2 ± 8.3 years; 81.5% male), the frequency of post-procedural long-period HI was noted in 42 patients (25.0%). Male was prone to experience HI (odds ratio, 9.156, p = 0.021). Aggressive inflation pressure ( 〉 7 atm) and 5 mm balloon for pre-dilatation were risk factors of long-period HI (OR, 7.372, p = 0.035; OR, 3.527, p = 0.023). Intraoperative peak blood pressure and larger-sized stents remained independent predictors for the development of HI (OR, 1.043, p = 0.027, and OR, 1.973, p = 0.015). Patients with prolonged HI were more likely to suffer TIA and stroke compared to other patients and significant difference was found in the occurrence of TIA ( p 〈 0.05). Non-significance was found in mortality rate and other outcomes. Conclusions CAS-induced HI occurs in a considerable percentage while several peri-procedural variables are determined as independent predictors to develop long-period HI. Patients with prolonged HI are associated with increased risk of neurologic events and thus standardized intervention as well as management of long-period HI are of critical importance during clinical process.

    Kurzfassung: An accessory spleen refers to single or multiple splenic tissues that appear outside the normal spleen position and have structures and functions similar to those of a normal spleen. We herein present a rare case of a 31-year-old woman who was hospitalized because of a 14-year history of sudden left upper abdominal pain after running. Abdominal computed tomography suggested a large soft tissue mass at the left renal hilum surrounded by several enlarged lymph nodes, which was totally different from computed tomography scanning of normal accessory spleen. The mass was resected by robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of accessory spleen. The incidence of retroperitoneal accessory spleen is very rare, which should be differentiated with retroperitoneal tumors.

    Kurzfassung: Evolutionary theories suggest that fundamental mating-related motives might exert specific effects on human cognition and behaviors. Based on the evolutionary perspective, our prior research illustrated that the activation of mating-related motives leads to a study-time allocation bias toward highly attractive female faces. While study-time allocation is one of the aspects of the self-regulated learning process, it is unclear whether mating motives affect study decision behaviors (as measured by item-selection orders) during the learning process. Therefore, the present study followed the logic of previous research and aimed to examine the effects of mating-related motives on item-selection orders for face–name associations among faces with varying attractiveness. In two experiments, after an imagery procedure, participants in mating-related priming conditions (Experiment 1: mate search, Experiment 2: mate guarding) or control conditions performed an item-selection task. Participants were shown 16 female faces with varying attractiveness on a computer screen and were instructed to decide the order for studying the faces and corresponding names. Experiment 1 showed that activating mate-search motives led male participants to prioritize the choice of highly attractive rather than less attractive faces for studying. In Experiment 2, compared to the participants in the control condition, female participants in the mate-guarding priming condition were more likely to prioritize the choice of highly attractive rather than less attractive faces for studying. The present findings clarify that mating-related motives affect the item-selection prioritization of faces with varying attractiveness.

    Kurzfassung: Although microRNA-144-3p (miRNA-144-3p) has been shown to suppress tumor proliferation and invasion, its function in intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH)-induced secondary brain injury (SBI) remains unclear. Thus, this study was designed to investigate the role of miRNA-144-3p in ICH. To accomplish this, we used adult male Sprague-Dawley rats to establish an in vivo ICH model by injecting autologous blood, while cultured primary rat cortical neurons were exposed to oxyhemoglobin (OxyHb) to mimic ICH in vitro. To examine the role of miRNA-144-3p in ICH-induced SBI, we used an miRNA-144-3p mimic and inhibitor both in vivo and in vitro. Following ICH induction, we found miRNA-144-3p expression to increase. Additionally, we predicted the formyl peptide receptor 2 (FPR2) to be a potential miRNA-144-3p target, which we validated experimentally, with FPR2 expression downregulated when miRNA-144-3p was upregulated. Furthermore, elevated miRNA-144-3p levels aggravated brain edema and neurobehavioral disorders and induced neuronal apoptosis via the downregulation of FPR2 both in vivo and in vitro. We suspected that these beneficial effects provided by FPR2 were associated with the PI3K/AKT pathway. We validated this finding by overexpressing FPR2 while inhibiting PI3K/AKT in vitro and in vivo. In conclusion, miRNA-144-3p aggravated ICH-induced SBI by targeting and downregulating FPR2, thereby contributing to neurological dysfunction and neural apoptosis via PI3K/AKT pathway activation. These findings suggest that inhibiting miRNA-144-3p may offer an effective approach to attenuating brain damage incurred after ICH and a potential therapy to improve ICH-induced SBI.

    Kurzfassung: In China, burnout is common among kindergarten, primary, and secondary school teachers. Previous studies have demonstrated that professional identity positively affects the prevention of burnout among teachers. However, studies on the mediating mechanisms behind and the moderating factors affecting this relationship remain scarce. In this study, the mediating role of work engagement as well as the moderating roles of self-efficacy and perceived organizational support in these relationships was examined. A total of 3,147 kindergarten, primary, and secondary school teachers completed self-reported questionnaires. SPSS 21.0 was used to conduct data analyses, and ordinary least square (OLS) regression was used to conduct mediation and moderation analyses. Results found that the relationship between teacher professional identity and burnout was partially mediated by work engagement. Through work engagement, teacher professional identity had the biggest predictive effects on burnout when the scores for self-efficacy and perceived organizational support were high. Implications for preventing burnout among teachers in the future were provided.

    Kurzfassung: Ketamine has proven to have rapid, robust antidepressant effects on treatment-resistant depression. However, whether repeated ketamine infusions would cause short-and long-term neurocognitive impairments was not clear. Our aims were to investigate the neurocognitive effects of six ketamine infusions and to examine the association between these infusions and the antidepressant response in patients with unipolar and bipolar depression. Methods: Six intravenous infusions of ketamine (0.5 mg/kg) over a 12-day period were administered to 84 patients with unipolar and bipolar depression. Severity of depressive symptoms and four domains of neurocognition, including speed of processing, working memory, visual learning and verbal learning, were assessed at baseline, one day following the last infusion and again two weeks post-infusion. Results: Significant improvements were found on speed of processing ( F=9.344, p 〈 0.001) and verbal learning ( F=5.647, p=0.004) in a linear mixed model. The Sobel test showed significant indirect effects between time and improvement in speed of processing (Sobel test=3.573, p 〈 0.001) as well as improvement in verbal learning (Sobel test=6.649, p 〈 0.001), which were both significantly mediated by change in depressive symptoms. Logistic regression analysis showed ketamine responders had better visual learning at baseline than non-responders (B=0.118, p 〈 0.001). Conclusions: Our findings suggest that neurocognitive function would not deteriorate after six ketamine infusions, while verbal learning and speed of processing improved over 13 days and 26 days of observation, respectively. However, this change was mainly accounted for by improvements in severity of depressive symptoms over time. Greater baseline visual learning predicted an antidepressant response over six ketamine infusions.

    Kurzfassung: The timing and extent of ‘Little Ice Age’ (LIA) glacial advances on the Tibetan Plateau (TP) are critical for understanding climate during the past millennium. However, the lack of LIA chronologies in central Tibet makes it difficult to fully understand the nature of LIA throughout the TP. In this study, two presumed LIA moraines in the east of Mount Jaggang, Xainza range, the central TP, were examined and dated using 10 Be surface exposure dating. Eight boulders from the two moraines yielded apparent 10 Be exposure-ages ranging from 41 ± 31 to 529 ± 130 years. These 10 Be exposure-ages indicate that glaciers advanced at least once in the Mount Jaggang area during the LIA. A relatively extensive glacial advance occurred around 267 ± 36 years, a relatively humid period as indicated by proxy data from lake sediments in the central TP. A glacial standstill might have occurred around 151 ± 36 years. The two LIA glacial events are comparable with those across the TP. However, much more efforts should be made on dating of LIA moraines in the Mount Jaggang area to elucidate the relationships between glacial advances and climate changes during the LIA.

    Kurzfassung: Evidence has demonstrated that non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) could be delivered efficiently to recipient cells using exosomes as a carrier. Additionally, long ncRNA nuclear enriched abundant transcript 1 (NEAT1) is emerging as a vital regulatory molecule in the progression of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The aim of this study was to identify the NEAT1/miR-144-3p/Rho-associated protein kinase 2 (ROCK2) functional network regulating the WNT signaling pathway in RA. Methods: In vivo, a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) model was established to analyze the effects of blood exosomes on the incidence, clinical score, and bone degradation of RA. In vitro, the CD4 + T cells were characterized by flow cytometry and the cell activities were analyzed in the presence of exosome treatment alone or in combination with altered expression of NEAT1, miR-144-3p or Rho-associated protein kinase 2 (ROCK2). The expression of NEAT1, miR-144-3p, ROCK2, and corresponding proteins in the WNT signaling pathway was detected by RT-qPCR and western blot techniques. The binding profile of NEAT1 to miR-144-3p was evaluated via a combination approach of luciferase activity assay, RNA immunoprecipitation, and RNA pull-down experiments. Results: Blood exosomes extracted from RA patients increased the incidence of RA and bone destruction significantly. Overexpression of NEAT1 or ROCK2 promoted immune cell (CD4 + T cells) proliferation, Th17 cell differentiation, and cell migration in response to stimulus, whereas knockout of the NEAT1 gene induced the expression of miR-144-3p in CD4 + T cells. ROCK2 exogenous expression inhibited the expression of miR-144-3p, inducing activation of the WNT signaling pathway. Conclusion: A novel regulatory pathway NEAT1/miR-144-3p/ROCK2/WNT in RA was investigated as a potential target for RA therapy.

    Kurzfassung: Sihailongwan Maar Lake, located in Northeast China, is a candidate Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) for demarcation of the Anthropocene. The lake’s varved sediments are formed by alternating allogenic atmospheric inputs and authigenic lake processes and store a record of environmental and human impacts at a continental-global scale. Varve counting and radiometric dating provided a precise annual-resolution sediment chronology for the site. Time series records of radioactive ( 239,240 Pu, 129 I and soot 14 C), chemical (spheroidal carbonaceous particles, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, soot, heavy metals, δ 13 C, etc.), physical (magnetic susceptibility and grayscale) and biological (environmental DNA) indicators all show rapid changes in the mid-20th century, coincident with clear lithological changes of the sediments. Statistical analyses of these proxies show a tipping point in 1954 CE. 239,240 Pu activities follow a typical unimodal globally-distributed profile, and are proposed as the primary marker for the Anthropocene. A rapid increase in 239,240 Pu activities at 88 mm depth in core SHLW21-Fr-13 (1953 CE) is synchronous with rapid changes of other anthropogenic proxies and the Great Acceleration, marking the onset of the Anthropocene. The results indicate that Sihailongwan Maar Lake is an ideal site for the Anthropocene GSSP.

    Kurzfassung: Violent behavior and suicidal ideation are two major public health problems, with the former representing outward attack and the latter characterizing inward attack. The effects of emotional maltreatment in childhood will continue into adolescence. This study explores the impact of childhood emotional maltreatment on adolescent violent behavior/suicidal ideation and its mechanism. Participants were 3,600 adolescents (average age is 16.21 ± 0.99) from the middle east of China. They completed questionnaires measuring emotional maltreatment in childhood, deviant peer affiliation, depression, violent behavior, and suicidal ideation in adolescence. After controlling for demographic variables, we found that deviant peer affiliation and depression mediated between childhood emotional maltreatment and adolescent violent behavior/suicidal ideation. Multi-group analysis results showed that males’ deviant peer affiliation would contribute to their violent behaviors. Among female groups, deviant peer affiliation and depression were risk factors for violent behavior and suicidal ideation. a) cross-sectional design was used in this study; b) all the measures were self-reported. Preventing emotional maltreatment in childhood can help reduce violent behavior and suicidal ideation by reducing deviant peer affiliation and depression in adolescence. Males who experienced emotional maltreatment in childhood are more likely to show violent behaviors shaped by external factors such as deviant peer affiliation. In contrast, females’ interpersonal orientation and internalizing factors both influence their external and internal aggressive behaviors.
