Das Buch enthält eine Kombination von funktionellen Bewegungsübungen und Ausdauersportarten, mit denen sich eine dauerhafte Fitness erreichen lässt. Grundlage und Maß für die Fitness sind Übungsprogramme, die so ausgerichtet sind, dass sich damit ein um 1500-2500 kcal höherer wöchentlicher Energieumsatz gegenüber Körperruhe erzielen lässt - ideal für die Prävention. Im theoretischen Teil des Buches werden die an den Körperbewegungen beteiligten Gewebe vorgestellt und Grundlagen zur Motorik, Fitnesskontrolle und Trainingssteuerung erörtert. Im weitaus größeren praktischen Teil werden über 150 Übungen für Halle, Wald und Strand angeboten (die für Halle und Strand auch mit Musik) sowie zahlreiche Ausdauersportübungen. Die Grundübungen werden ausführlich erläutert, hauptsächlich benutzte Muskeln (Agonisten und Haltemuskeln) werden genannt, und bei den Hallenübungen auch schematisch dargestellt. Die Übungen sind auch zur Kräftigung abgeschwächter Muskeln, zur Dehnung verkürzter Muskeln, zur Mobilisation von Gelenken und zur Verbesserung der allgemeinen Ausdauerleistung geeignet.
