Proportionssysteme dienten seit der Antike als Grundlage des Entwerfens. Architekten und Architekturhistoriker liefern in diesem Band einen Überblick zur Geschichte der Proportionen in der Architektur, zu ihren theoretischen Grundlagen sowie zu ihrer konkreten baulichen Anwendung. Proportionssysteme wurden zwar im Zuge der Aufklärung zunehmend hinterfragt, doch sie verschwanden nie ganz aus dem Architekturdiskurs. Auch heute erscheint kaum ein Artikel über ein neues Gebäude, der nicht dessen Proportionen lobt oder tadelt. Was aber ist mit Proportionen genau gemeint: ein objektiv anwendbares System von Maßen und Verhältnissen oder ein subjektives und persönliches Gefühl? Ausgehend von Untersuchungen zur menschlichen Raumwahrnehmung beleuchten die Autor_innen das Verhältnis des Körpers zu seiner Umgebung sowie die Maßsysteme und Ideale, die daraus abgeleitet werden.
