Das Buch hat 3 Autorinnen und vermutlich deshalb auch 3 recht unterschiedliche Teile. Der Gegenstand des 1. (kurzen) Teils sind optische Wahrnehmungsprozesse. Der 2., mit Abstand umfangreichste Teil behandelt Grundprobleme des Grafikdesigns (Form, Farbe, Typografie, Zeichen). Die Inhalte dieser ersten beiden Abschnitte vermitteln grundlegendes Wissen über Design, das für unterschiedliche Medien (Print und Online) gleich oder zumindest ähnlich sind. Deshalb findet man vergleichbare Darstellungen genauso in reinen Grafikdesign-Titeln. Erst im 3. Teil werden Web-Spezifika, wie z.B. Gestaltungsraster einer Webpage in den Vordergrund gestellt. Wie man gutes Design mit den zur Verfügung stehenden Mitteln (HTML etc.) auf den Bildschirm bringt, wird nicht beschrieben (dafür R. Lankau: ID 42/01). So ist das Buch genau das Richtige für diejenigen, die die technischen Aspekte des Webdesign schon beherrschen und jetzt die grundlegenden Gestaltungsprinzipien für ansprechende Webseiten kennen lernen wollen.
