Content: Biodiversity is the key indicator of a healthy planet and healthy society. Losses of biodiversity have now become widespread and current rates are potentially catastrophic for species and habitat integrity. Biodiversity, Sustainability and Human Communities, first published in 2002, advocates both the preservation of the best remaining habitats and the enhancement of new biodiverse habitats to ensure that they cope with human impact, climate change and alien species invasion. The authors argue that these aims can be achieved by a mix of strict protection, inclusive involvement of people inside and adjacent to reserves, and by combining livelihoods and social well-being in all future biodiversity management. Case studies from regions around the world, including Europe, the United States, Latin America and Africa are examined and discussed, and the contributors include political scientists, economists and ecologists

Content: The research questions are: (a) Who are the relevant actors in the field of environmental education in the Waterberg district? (b) How are the actors networked and what type of cooperation exist? (c) Which population groups participate in existing environmental education? The hypothesis is that low-income sections of the black population in particular do not take part in environmental education. The Waterberg District investigation area in Limpopo Province, like many other rural districts in South Africa, is characterized by unequal power relationships, high unemployment and the leghacy of apartheid. There are only a few studies that adequately analyze the current situation of environmental education in the Waterberg district (Baber, de Klerk and Walker 2003). The work is based on the use of several socio-empirical methods, such as written and oral surveys (interviews) during the research stays between 2009 and 2018/19 as well as field observations between 1995 and 2018/19 in the Waterberg district research area. All stakeholders interviewed in the research work (schools, wildlife farms, nature reserves) convey a level environmental education. However, there has not been a uniform concept in environmental education for the Waterberg district; this is where the study comes in. The discrepancy between wealthy largely white landowners and investors on the one hand, and the smaller, poor communities with predominantly black population groups on the other is characteristic of the ...
