Aufgebaut wie sein Erfolgstitel "Das große Buch vom Marathon" (BA 2/06, 9. Neuauflage 2016) wendet sich Beck hier sowohl an Laufanfänger wie auch an Leistungssportler. Sein modulares Lauf-Trainingssystem soll effizientes Training fördern und einen Nichtläufer relativ schnell zum Läufer befördern. Nach Motivation und Zielsetzung werden Ausrüstung, Lauftechnik und Trainingsmethoden beschrieben. Trainingspläne für 5 und 10 km sowie Halbmarathon bilden den Schwerpunkt des Buches. Die abschließenden Kapitel widmen sich Ernährung, Kraft- und Mentaltraining. Sehr viele, nicht immer aussagekräftige Fotos - auch von vielen Lauf-Stars - und eine große Anzahl Tabellen begleiten den Text. Die wenig stabile Broschur wird den über 300 Seiten nicht lange standhalten, zumal die Tabellen zum Kopieren auffordern. Dennoch: Alles drin, was ein Läufer wissen sollte. Deshalb Empfehlung für den Grundbestand neben M. Marquardt: "Die Laufbibel" (BA 9/05, 17. Auflage: ID-A 21/17).
