Europa, genauer gesagt die Europäische Union, ist ein schwieriger Unterrichtsgegenstand. Das Interesse ist oft gering, weil die EU-Politik zu kompliziert und zu weit von der eigenen Lebensrealität entfernt zu sein scheint. Dabei sind wir alle täglich von Entscheidungen betroffen, die auf EU-Ebene gefällt werden. Umso wichtiger ist es, das Thema Schülerinnen und Schülern zugänglich zu machen. Der vorliegende Band setzt dabei auf die Hymne der EU und die Nationalhymnen der EU-Mitgliedsstaaten. Diese sind im Bewusstsein aller präsent, da sie bei vielen Anlässen gespielt werden, die keineswegs immer ?hochoffiziell? sind. Sich mit den Nationalhymnen zu befassen, lohnt sich IBM aus musikalischer, sprachlicher und politikwissenschaftlicher Sicht. Unterschiedliche Musikstile und Inhalte, die in sehr verschiedenen Kontexten entstanden sind, kommen hier zusammen. Über die Beschäftigung mit den Melodien und den Texten hinaus bieten die Nationalhymnen einen alternativen und ganz positiven emotionalen Ansatz, um sich mit den Staaten der EU zu befassen: Die Annäherung an die Nachbarn findet nicht über Statistiken oder Institutionen statt, sondern über die Musik. Dadurch wird hör- und erfahrbar, welche Vielfalt die EU vereint. Musik, Sprache, Landeskunde, politische Reflexion IBM für jede und jeden ist etwas dabei. Die Beschäftigung mit Nationalhymnen eignet sich deshalb besonders für den Unterricht
