Abstract:
Bis(NR‐salicylideneiminato)cobalt(II) (with R = methyl, ethyl, n‐propyl, n‐butyl) have been prepared as orange or red crystals. The examination of the UV‐spectra of these complexes shows that the configuration of the methyl‐derivative is different from that of the other derivatives. The latter ones show UV‐spectra being quite similar to those of the isopropyl and sec‐butyl derivatives, having a configuration of distorted tetrahedron. The methyl derivative most probably has a planar co‐ordination around the cobalt(II) ion. It has also been found that the UV‐spectra of the corresponding cobalt(II)complexes with R = cyclohexyl, benzyl, m‐tolyl, and phenyl show features similar to those of the isopropyl and sec‐butyl derivatives, having a configuration of distorted tetrahedron, too.
