Abstract:
In this work we present results of structural (XRD) and microstructural (SEM) characterization, as well as determination of transport properties (electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient) and oxygen nonstoichiometry as a function of temperature for La 2 NiO 4+δ , Nd 2 NiO 4+δ and Pr 2 NiO 4+δ layered perovskites, promising cathode materials for application in intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). In addition to characterization of physico-chemical properties, the obtained materials were used as cathodes in custom made, electrolyte-supported IT-SOFCs. Electrochemical performance and impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements were performed on the cells in 600–850°C temperature range. The obtained maximum power densities, exceeded 0.2 W⋅cm -2 at 800°C.
