Abstract:
With the aim of evaluating psychoanalytic teaching in premedical curricula, a survey was made of the psychiatric readings used in a sampling of 12 United States medical colleges. Eighteen of the main psychiatric texts recommended by the schools are reviewed as one way of evaluating psychoanalytic course content. In addition, the authors present an overview of the problems that confront the teaching of psychoanalytic concepts in medical education. Specific constructive suggestions are offered.
