Abstract:
Experimental results obtained at Orsay and at Northwestern on the squashing collective mode of super fluid 3 He–B are compared to the zero magnetic field theory of Sauls and Serene. With reasonable choices of the theoretical parameters based on known liquid 3 He properties, the f-wave pairing interaction becomes, in principle, the only free variable in the theory. The f-wave admixture turns out to be small, although the theory cannot be made to model exactly the experimental results both close to and far from the transition temperature.
