Since immemorial time, soldiers and traders, diplomats and pilgrims, tourits and travelers have crossed the mountains. Historians may try to understand since how long people were crossing mountain passes without being compelled, but by pleasure and let it know. Basically, this cultural process has been progressive from the last quarter of the XVIIIth century. It took directly an european dimesion by the way of english tourists of course, but also French, Germans, Danish, Genevans... In particular, this change was due to new interests such as geology but also travelling and panoramas.
