Abstract:
The use of the label “schizophrenia,” which does not have a scientific basis or validation, tends to lead prospective helpers of suffering people away from what can truly help and toward approaches that cause serious harm. A nonpathologizing approach—listening to the person tell their story—held great promise but was prematurely stopped.
