Abstract:
Flowering time is controlled by endogenous genetic components and environmental factors, such as day length, temperature, and stress. The molecular mechanisms underlying flowering in these respects have been well characterized, but other environmental influences are less well understood. Here we review how flowering time is influenced by nutrients, ambient temperature, drought, salinity, exogenously applied hormones and chemicals, and pathogenic microbes, thus providing avenues for increasing crop productivity under various environmental challenges.
