Abstract:
La traceología o análisis funcional se ha mostrado desde sus inicios como disciplina dentro de la Arqueología (Semenov, 1957) como una eficaz herramienta de acercamiento a la manufactura y uso de elementos materiales arqueológicos. Esta metodología se basa en el análisis macroscópico y microscópico de las huellas generadas en la superficie de los objetos durante su manufactura y/o uso, así como en la inferencia, a través de la experimentación analítica, respecto a como fueron realizados y/o utilizados. Las aplicaciones de esta metodología sobre materiales no líticos (hueso, asta, madera o concha) han sido bastante escasas, ya que generalmente estos objetos han sido analizados desde una perspectiva morfotipológica. Esto ha generado un menor desarrollo de una base metodológica específica para el estudio funcional de soportes con unas características físico-químicas y de conservación más heterogéneas en comparación a los elementos líticos. Sin embargo se trata de una metodología con gran potencial para extraer información acerca de la manufactura y uso de los objetos de concha, centrando el interés no en la morfología, si no en el proceso de manufactura y consumo de estos instrumentos de trabajo y/o adornos como vía de estudio de las sociedades del pasado.
