Abstract:
The unusual grinding effects observed in the 1D spin crossover polymer [FeL(bipy)] n ( 1 ), with L being a tetradentate N 2 O 2 2– coordinating Schiff base type ligand {(3,3′)‐[1,2‐phenylenebis(iminomethylidyne)]bis(2,4‐pentanedionato)(2–)‐ N,N′,O 2 ,O 2 ′ } and bipy = 4,4′‐bipyridine, are investigated using magnetic measurements, X‐ray powder diffraction and optical reflectivity studies. The observed behaviour can be explained when solvent effects are taken into account. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2008)
