Abstract: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) causes an increase in symptom burden and deteriorates the health status of geriatric individuals due to its progressive and chronic nature. As a result of the increasing severity of dyspnea with the progression of the disease, the oxygen requirement of geriatric individuals increases during physical movements and in order to tolerate this situation, most of the patients move less during the day and try to spend minimum effort. As the health status deteriorates and the symptom burden increases, patients become dependent on daily living activities such as dressing, nutrition, individual hygiene and movement. The risk of occurrence of frailty syndrome in geriatric individuals with COPD increases with the accompanying increase in dyspnea and care dependence. Considering the literature, limited studies have been found that investigating dyspnea, care dependence and frailty variables in geriatric individuals with COPD, simultaneously. Therefore, the interaction between the variables of dyspnea, care dependency and frailty in geriatric individuals with COPD and the importance of care approach are discussed in this review.

Abstract: Manganese (Mn), a heavy metal commonly used in industry, is a trace element required for many enzymatic processes that drive biological functions. However, excess exposure to Mn leads to toxicity. Its toxic effects on the central nervous system are important. The typical manifestation of Mn over exposure is parkinsonism, which may be challenging to differentiate it from more common idiopathic Parkinson's disease. In addition to occupational and environmental exposure to Mn, other potential etiologies causing Mn toxicity include systemic diseases, total parenteral nutrition and some drugs. In this review, we evaluated occupational and environmental exposure of Mn, its pathophysiology and clinical characteristics. We have highlighted the impact of Mn exposure at the workplace and emphasize the necessity of a detailed occupational and environmental history to ensure that a toxicity is not misdiagnosed as a neurodegenerative disease. In the absence of a comprehensive treatment, early diagnosis and timely initiation of preventive measures are the keys to managing Mn toxic effects.

Abstract: Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı, kanserli bireylerde yorgunluk ve spiritüel iyilik hali arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir.

Abstract: Aim: This study was carried out to create a consensus text on the duties, authorities and responsibilities, education, personal rights, and professional association of occupational physicians and to contribute to the legislative change in our country. Method: Two rounds of modified e-Delphi techniques were used. The study group consisted of experienced occupational physicians, faculty members working on occupational health and safety (OHS) and 56 experts working on OHS legislation. Data was collected in both rounds with the Google form. 39 experts participated in the first round and 37 of those contributed to the second round. Qualitative content analysis was performed in the first round, and mean, standard deviation, median, and mode values were calculated based on the answers to the 5-point Likert questions in the second round. Values of at least 80% and above were used for the consensus text in the second round. Results: The issues such as the lack of knowledge and awareness about OHS, being the diagnosis and treatment services at the forefront in the job description of OP (occupational physician), inadequate inspections, lack of organization, insufficient duration and content of OP’s training, unsuitable social and physical conditions in the working environment, no standardization in wages, uncertainty of personal rights and job descriptions, restriction of powers due to commercial relations with OSGB and employers, and job insecurity were emphasized in the study. The following suggestions were provided: strengthening professional associations and organizations; arranging continuous in-service training; improving working conditions in infirmaries; standardizing remuneration; protecting personal rights; prioritizing preventive medicine; having enforcement power on OHS; acting jointly as all stakeholders; universities; the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and professional organizations. Conclusion: There is a need to amend the legislation and find solutions, taking into account the problems and solution proposals identified in the fields of working conditions, education, the future, personal rights, duties, powers and responsibilities of OP.

Abstract: Aim: The aim of this study was to perform validity and reliability of Turkish version of the Dyspnea-12 Scale.Material and Methods: This methodological study was conducted with 60 COPD patients followed in a university hospital located in Ankara. “Patient Information Form” and “The Dyspnea-12 Scale” were used for data collection. The language, content and structure validity and the reliability stages were completed, respectively. Results: The mean age of the patients was 63.5±8.7 years, and the mean duration of COPD was 5.9±4.9 years. The big majority of the sample was composed of male (70.0%) and married & nbsp;(81.7%) patients. There was a consistency between the expert views on the items of the scalein the content variability analysis (CVR=1.00). As a result of exploratory factor analysis, thescale included two factor structures explaining 84.14% of the total variance, and the factorloadings ranged from 0.80 to 0.95. According to the confirmatory factor analysis, Chi-square/df was 1.936, non-normed fit index was 0.89, and comparative fit index was 0.94. The internalconsistency of the Cronbach’s alpha was 0.97.Conclusion: The Turkish version of the Dyspnea-12 Scale met validity and reliability criteriaat an acceptable level, is an appropriate tool to assess of dyspnea in a subjective manner andcan be applied in clinical trials.

Abstract: Diabetes is a chronic and progressive disease and causes a higher symptom burden in individuals. With the progression of the disease, complications of diabetes increase, individuals may not be able to perform self-management, and along with these the care dependence comes to the fore. Since diabetes lasts a lifetime, progresses with common symptoms, and requires self-management activities, the frequency and severity of symptoms experienced by individuals with Type 2 diabetes, self-management skills and levels of care dependency should be addressed. Maintaining care and self-management in diabetes throughout life is the most critical issue. Many studies have showed that Type 2 diabetes has not yet been controlled at the desired level, despite important developments in the diagnosis and treatment processes. In this review article, we aimed to provide a broad perspective on the symptoms of diabetes, self-management, and care dependency level in individuals with Type 2 diabetes and the relationship between these variables, and to contribute to the care approach of patients with diabetes in this context.
