Abstract:
La visibilité paléo‐écologique des impacts humains historiques sur des écosystèmes naturels en Afrique de l'Est tropicale est très occultée par une signature prédominante des changements climatiques à l'échelle des décennies mais aussi des millénaires. Une meilleure connaissance de l'ampleur relative et du calendrier des impacts humains présents et passés et de la variabilité du climat est néanmoins indispensable pour pouvoir évaluer correctement la résilience et le potentiel de rétablissement des écosystèmes naturels d'Afrique de l'Est. Ici, nous passons brièvement en revue d'anciennes tentatives globales visant à évaluer les réponses écosystémiques passées aux changements climatiques et aux impacts humains. Nous discutons aussi certaines questions clés concernant les relations climat‐hommes‐écosystème dans un cadre pluridisciplinaire, et nous abordons certains défis et résultats à venir qui pourraient tracer la voie vers une meilleure compréhension des interactions climat‐hommes‐écosystème du passé en Afrique tropicale.
