Abstract: Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world, with 17,000 islands of varying sizes and elevations, from lowlands to very high mountains, stretching more than 5000 km eastward from Sabang in Aceh to Merauke in Papua. Although occupying only 1.3% of the world’s land area, Indonesia possesses the third-largest rainforest and the second-highest level of biodiversity, with very high species diversity and endemism. However, during the last two decades, Indonesia has been known as a country with a high level of deforestation, a producer of smoke from burning forests and land, and a producer of carbon emissions. The aim of this paper is to review the environmental history and the long process of Indonesian forest management towards achieving environmental sustainability and community welfare. To do this, we analyze the milestones of Indonesian forest management history, present and future challenges, and provide strategic recommendations toward a viable Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) system. Our review showed that the history of forestry management in Indonesia has evolved through a long process, especially related to contestation over the control of natural resources and supporting policies and regulations. During the process, many efforts have been applied to reduce the deforestation rate, such as a moratorium on permitting primary natural forest and peat land, land rehabilitation and soil conservation, environmental protection, and other significant regulations. Therefore, these efforts should be maintained and improved continuously in the future due to their significant positive impacts on a variety of forest areas toward the achievement of viable SFM. Finally, we conclude that the Indonesian government has struggled to formulate sustainable forest management policies that balance economic, ecological, and social needs, among others, through developing and implementing social forestry instruments, developing and implementing human resource capacity, increasing community literacy, strengthening forest governance by eliminating ambiguity and overlapping regulations, simplification of bureaucracy, revitalization of traditional wisdom, and fair law enforcement.

Simple Gas Leakage Detection System Based on Arduino UnoAbstractThe use of gas in various aspects of human life nowadays is inevitable, ranging from the needs of household scales to industries. As an effort to increase the prevention of occupational accidents due to gas leakage, control of gas leakage becomes a vital action. Therefore, this paper discusses the response of MQ2, MQ3, and MQ5 gas sensors to gases and smokes. The ATMega328 microcontroller ran the three gas sensors with the Arduino Uno module. As an actuator, buzzers were used as audio signal senders and LEDs as a basis for visual information related to reminders of excess gas detected by MQ2, MQ3, and MQ5. The physical mechanism, when the gas sensor detects the presence of excess gas, then the sound signal from the buzzer could be activated in such a way that it can be used as an early indication of the presence of leakage of gas. Generally, MQ2, MQ3, and MQ5 gas sensors performed slightly differently in responding to the presence of gases and smokes. In turn, the results of this study are designed as relevant information in selecting the type of gas sensor as needed. Keywords: Gas sensor, Microcontroller, MQ2, MQ3, MQ5, Simple instrumentation.

Abstract: In this paper, we report the preparation of magnetite nanoparticles combined with polyaniline and activated carbon. The results of the X-Ray diffraction data analysis showed that the samples had a magnetite crystal phase without other phases. The existence of polyaniline and activated carbon was confirmed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy characterization shown by the presence of S=O, C-N, and C-C. The sample of synthesis results in this work had the band gap of 3.23 eV. Moreover, the results of data analysis using vector network analyzer revealed the maximum reflection loss value of -14 with the absorbance of 50%. Thereby, the synthesis optimization needs to be done to increase the sample absorbance to the radar wave.

Abstract: Simultaneous double-sided MIG welding as alternative method for joining the skin-stringer T-joints were investigated. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the welded joints were examined. Our study showed that a distance of 27-mm (torch to surface) results in the best weld appearance. Shorter distance produces higher heat input and causes the material stringers to melted with the filler, while longer distance increases the number of porosity and prevents the formation of a complete fusion zone.

Kata kunci: Azolla, Kompos, Pertumbuhan, Rumput Raja ABSTRACT Research with experimental method aims to examine the effect of combination dose of organic compost fertilization and the addition of Azolla on the growth of king grass (Pennisetum purpureophoides). From April 1 to September 30, 2020, research was conducted on agricultural land, Beji Village, Kedungbanteng District, Banyumas Regency. The experiment used a completely randomized design with a factorial pattern with the first factor being the dose of organic compost, namely 10, 20, and 30 tons ha-1, and the addition of Azolla, namely 10, 20, 30 percent of the first factor, resulting in 9 treatment combinations. Each treatment combination was repeated three times to produce 27 experimental units. The king grass plant in the second cutting was planted on ??400 square meters with a spacing of 80 x 40 cm. The organic compost used is derived from beef cattle dung that has finished the composting process, and Azolla comes from rice fields. Research parameters measured were plant height and stem diameter measured on days 14, 28, and 42 days. The data that had been obtained were then analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and continued with the orthogonal polynomial test. The results showed that the dose of compost had a very significant effect (P 〈 0.01) on plant height and stem diameter, while the application of Azolla fertilizer also had a very significant effect (P 〈 0.01) on plant height and stem diameter, but the interaction had no effect significant (P 〉 0.05). Dosage of organic compost can be used to achieve the best king grass growth of 30 tons ha-1 and the addition of Azolla by 30 percent of the dose of organic fertilizer.
