Abstract:
Magnetic torque curves are measured for Mn-Al multilayered films, while changing the number of layers or the layer thickness, to investigate the magnetic anisotropy. A seven-layer film with layer thickness of 10 nm shows two-fold symmetry, while the eight-layer film shows a unique four-fold symmetry in the torque curves measured with the magnetic field rotated in the normal plane. The torque amplitude of four-fold symmetry component decreases as the layer thickness increases. The results suggest that the four-fold symmetry in the torque curves of the Mn-Al multilayered films is due to the magnetic interactions between the ferromagnetic regions near the Mn-Al interfaces.
