Abstract:
Demonstrar la aplicación del Tiempo transcurrido hasta el tratamiento de la TB , como un parámetro alternativo para calcular el tamaño del reservorio infeccioso de la en la zona occidental de Gojjam, en la Región de Amhara, en Etiopía. Métodos En este estudio hemos utilizado el Tiempo transcurrido hasta el tratamiento de la TB , es decir el número de días transcurridos entre el comienzo de la tos y el comienzo del tratamiento, para determinar el periodo infeccioso. Se incluyeron todos los pacientes con TB pulmonar con baciloscopia positiva y con baciloscopia negativa, aquellos recibiendo un nuevo tratamiento y un número estimado de casos no detectados. El reservorio de infección se calculó como el número anual de personas días infecciosas en una población definida. Resultados El Tiempo transcurrido hasta el tratamiento de la TB , de los casos de TB sin diagnosticar y de pacientes con baciloscopia positiva contribuían de forma significativa al reservorio infeccioso con 151,840 y 128,750 persona días infecciosos, respectivamente. El reservorio infeccioso total dentro del área de estudio, incluyendo los casos de TB con baciloscopia negativa y los pacientes recibiendo tratamiento nuevamente, se calculó en 325,410 personas día o 15,447 personas días por cada 100,000 habitantes durante el año de estudio. Conclusión Llevar registro del Tiempo transcurrido hasta el tratamiento de la TB puede ser útil para calcular el reservorio infeccioso de TB y monitorizar el desempeño del programa en la comunidad.
