Abstract:
We propose a compact, highly efficient semiconductor second-harmonic (SH)
generator based on a new type of quasi-phase-matching (QPM) that is achieved by modulating the optical nonlinearity at the period
of the harmonic wavelength and by utilizing a cavity-enhanced fundamental standing wave.
The conversion efficiency of an SH generator incorporating GaP/AlP layers in a cavity to achieve the new QPM is shown to be considerably higher than
that of a conventional QPM device.
