Abstract: The interrelationship between periodontium and pulp makes the treatment of combined endo-periodontal lesions (EPL) more challenging. It involves successful elimination of both periodontal and endodontic lesion. The current case report represents the efficacy of regenerative potential of enamel matrix derivates (Emdogain®) in endo-periodontal lesion after successful endodontic treatment. A 39-year-old woman presented with EPL on a left first mandibular molar. After the initial 3 months of healing, the clinical examination showed that the furcation involvement still prevailed. A decision was made to use a regenerative procedure using Emdogain®. Fourteen months after the procedure, full periodontal regeneration can be seen on the X-ray. The results demonstrated the synergetic effect of the endodontic and periodontal therapy that changed the prognosis for the tooth.

Abstract: The article considers the design of a microwave reflex-radar level gauge of the nuclear reactor coolant. The main advantage of the reflex-radar measurement principle is that it does not affect the accuracy of measuring the level of bubbles present, coolant condensation and boiling, changes in its pressure as well as temperature and density. In addition, the measuring transmitter design is quite simple. In this level gauge, a microwave waveguide made as a coaxial line is used as a transducer (measuring probe). The probe consists of a steel pipe with an external diameter of 20 mm and a central electrode: it is located vertically and immersed in a controlled coolant. The probe wave resistance is 50 ohms. The device electrical diagram is presented. The oscillograms of the received signals and the basic relationships explaining the level gauge operation are given. The signals of the coaxial measuring probe are studied in a fluid with a variable dielectric constant. The results of an experimental study of the level gauge operation in a water coolant at high parameters are given: at pressures up to 10 MPa and temperatures up to 310 °C. It is shown that the device maintains its functional stability under these conditions. The level gauge’s readings practically need not be corrected when the coolant’s thermophysical properties change. The device is intended for use in the control and management systems of nuclear power plants as well as in fuel reprocessing plants.

Abstract: Many measurements at the LHC require efficient identification of heavy-flavour jets, i.e. jets originating from bottom (b) or charm (c) quarks. An overview of the algorithms used to identify c jets is described and a novel method to calibrate them is presented. This new method adjusts the entire distributions of the outputs obtained when the algorithms are applied to jets of different flavours. It is based on an iterative approach exploiting three distinct control regions that are enriched with either b jets, c jets, or light-flavour and gluon jets. Results are presented in the form of correction factors evaluated using proton-proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 41.5 fb -1 at √s = 13 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment in 2017. The closure of the method is tested by applying the measured correction factors on simulated data sets and checking the agreement between the adjusted simulation and collision data. Furthermore, a validation is performed by testing the method on pseudodata, which emulate various mismodelling conditions. The calibrated results enable the use of the full distributions of heavy-flavour identification algorithm outputs, e.g. as inputs to machine-learning models. Thus, they are expected to increase the sensitivity of future physics analyses.

Abstract: We present measurements of Underlying Event observables in pp collisions at $ \sqrt {s} = 0.9 $ and 7TeV. The analysis is performed as a function of the highest charged-particle transverse momentum p T,LT in the event. Different regions are defined with respect to the azimuthal direction of the leading (highest transverse momentum) track: Toward, Transverse and Away. The Toward and Away regions collect the fragmentation products of the hardest partonic interaction. The Transverse region is expected to be most sensitive to the Underlying Event activity. The study is performed with charged particles above three different p T thresholds: 0.15, 0.5 and 1.0 GeV /c . In the Transverse region we observe an increase in the multiplicity of a factor 2–3 between the lower and higher collision energies, depending on the track p T threshold considered. Data are compared to P ythia 6.4, P ythia 8.1 and P hojet . On average, all models considered underestimate the multiplicity and summed p T in the Transverse region by about 10–30%.

Abstract: The ALICE experiment at the LHC has studied J/ ψ production at mid-rapidity in pp collisions at $ \sqrt{s}=7 $ TeV through its electron pair decay on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity L int = 5 . 6 nb −1 . The fraction of J/ ψ from the decay of long-lived beauty hadrons was determined for J/ ψ candidates with transverse momentum p t 〉 1 . 3 GeV/ c and rapidity | y | 〈 0 . 9. The cross section for prompt J/ ψ mesons, i.e. directly produced J/ ψ and prompt decays of heavier charmonium states such as the ψ (2S) and χ c resonances, is σ prompt J/ ψ ( p t 〉 1 . 3 GeV /c, | y | 〈 0 . 9) = 8 . 3 ± 0 . 8 (stat . ) ± 1 . 1 (syst . ) $ _{-1.4}^{+1.5 } $ (syst . pol . ) μ b. The cross section for the production of b-hadrons decaying to J/ ψ with p t 〉 1 . 3 GeV/ c and | y | 〈 0 . 9 is $ {\sigma_{{{J \left/ {{\psi \leftarrow {{\mathrm{h}}_{\mathrm{B}}}}} \right.}}}} $ ( p t 〉 1.3 GeV/ c , | y | 〈 0.9) = 1.46 ± 0.38 (stat.) $ _{-0.32}^{+0.26 } $ (syst.) μ b. The results are compared to QCD model predictions. The shape of the p t and y distributions of b-quarks predicted by perturbative QCD model calculations are used to extrapolate the measured cross section to derive the $ \mathrm{b}\overline{\mathrm{b}} $ pair total cross section and d σ/ d y at mid-rapidity.

Abstract: The “anomaly P” was described in Palearctic water frogs of the genus Pelophylax by Jean Rostand as complex morphological anomalies of water frogs, including polydactyly, brachymely, hind limb oedema, bone outgrowths, spikes, flexions and additional limbs in the inguinal region. In 2016, the anomaly P syndrome was rediscovered in central Russia, confirming the hypothesis concerning its wider distribution. Here, three new records of this syndrome in two species of western Palearctic water frog from Russia are described.
