Abstract: Bu araştırmada eğitim fakültesinde farklı sınıf düzeylerinde öğrenim gören sınıf öğretmenliği öğrencilerinin “eğitim teknolojisi” kavramına yönelik algıları tespit edilip değerlendirilmiştir.

Abstract: Objective: We aimed to detect and compare group B streptococcus (GBS) colonization in pregnant women at third trimester using real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) and culture methods. Methods: Vaginal swab specimens were taken for screening of GBS from 100 women between 35-37 weeks of gestation who were attending to antenatal outpatient unit of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty from May 2014 to September 2014. Results: Rates of GBS colonization was %5 and %7 by culture and real-time PCR methods, respectively. Using culture as the gold standard; sensitivity and specificity for real-time PCR were 100% and 97.9%, respectively. Any significant difference was not detected between GBS colonization with age groups, education levels, number of previous pregnancies, smoking habits, history of antibiotic use, and contraceptive method. Conclusion: Real-time PCR technique has proven to be as sensitive as the culture method. Also, real-time PCR may provide a rapid diagnostic tool for GBS detection potentially allowing a more effective intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis and lower infant morbidity and mortality. However, the inability to use PCR test in every laboratory and its high cost creates a handicap.

Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the stress‐related changes that may occur in sheep following non‐surgical cervical line passage. A total of 20 sheep underwent transcervical transition, and their heart rate, respiratory rate, body temperature, and blood samples were collected at specific time points: 1 h prior to the procedure, immediately after the procedure, and at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 h post‐procedure. The study found that there was a statistically significant decrease in body temperature immediately after the procedure ( p   〈  .05); however, there were no significant differences in body temperature at other time points ( p   〉  .05). Respiratory rate remained similar throughout the study, and no significant differences were observed ( p   〉  .05). On the other hand, there was a significant increase in heart rate at the 1‐h mark after the procedure ( p   〈  .05), which subsequently decreased to a similar level as the control group at the 4‐h mark after the procedure ( p   〉  .05). The cortisol levels increased significantly after the application ( p   〈  .05) but decreased to a level similar to the control after 1 h ( p   〉  .05). The level of nitric oxide increased significantly in the first hour ( p   〈  .05) and decreased by the 5th hour ( p   〈  .05). There was a significant increase in malondialdehyde (MDA) and total oxidant capacity (TOC) levels 2 h after the application ( p   〈  .05), but this increase ceased at the 4th and 5th hours for MDA ( p   〉  .05) and at the 3rd, 4th and 5th hours for TOC ( p   〉  .05). The total antioxidant capacity decreased after the 2nd hour of application ( p   〈  .05) but remained similar at the fourth and 5th hours ( p   〉  .05). In conclusion, based on the cortisol data, transcervical manipulations create short‐term stress. Therefore, it may be necessary to use various antioxidants before such procedures to reduce the effects of oxidative stress.

In: Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research, Wiley, Vol. 47, No. 3 ( 2021-03), p. 1134-1144
Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of adequate lymph node dissection (LND) (≥10 pelvic lymph nodes (LNs) and ≥ 5 paraaortic LNs removed) in patients with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage II endometrioid endometrial cancer (EEC). Methods A multicenter department database review was performed to identify patients who had been operated and diagnosed with stage II EEC at seven centers in Turkey retrospectively. Demographic, clinicopathological, and survival data were collected and analyzed. Results We identified 284 women with stage II EEC. There were 170 (59.9%) patients in the adequate lymph node dissection (LND) group and 114 (40.1%) in the inadequate LND group. The 5‐year overall survival (OS) rate of the inadequate LND group was significantly lower than that of the adequate LND group (84.1% vs. 89.1%, respectively; p = 0.028). In multivariate analysis, presence of lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI) (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.39, 95% confidence interval [CI] : 1.23–4.63; p = 0.009), age ≥ 60 (HR: 3.30, 95% CI: 1.65–6.57; p = 0.001], and absence of adjuvant therapy (HR: 2.74, 95% CI: 1.40–5.35; p = 0.003) remained as independent risk factors for decreased 5‐year disease‐free survival (DFS). Inadequate LND (HR: 2.34, 95% CI: 1.18–4.63; p   〈  0.001), age ≥ 60 (HR: 2.67, 95% CI: 1.25–5.72; p = 0.011), and absence of adjuvant therapy (HR: 4.95, 95% CI: 2.28–10.73; p   〈  0.001) were independent prognostic factors for decreased 5‐year OS in multivariate analysis. Conclusion Adequate LND and adjuvant therapy were significant for the improvement of outcomes in FIGO stage II EEC patients. Furthermore, LVSI was associated with worse 5‐year DFS rate in stage II EEC.

Abstract: We asked why endometrial cancer sometimes vanishes. Methods A total of 454 patients diagnosed with endometrioid‐type endometrial cancer (EC) (via endometrial sampling) and treated in our clinic over the past 5 years were enrolled. The patients were divided into two groups: vanishing and residual, depending on whether a tumor was detected in the postoperative hysterectomy specimen. Patient age, numbers of pregnancies and deliveries, menopausal status, systemic disease status, hemogram parameters, International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) grade, and invasion status (evident on magnetic resonance imaging [MRI]) were compared between the groups. Results ECs vanished in 42 (9.25%) patients. The vanishing rates were 19.7% (37/187) in FIGO grade 1 patients, 2.1% (5/238) in grade 2 patients, and 0% (0/29) in grade 3 patients. The average age was lower in the vanishing than the residual group, but the premenopausal status and grade 1 tumor rates were higher (both p   〈  0.001). An absence of invasion (as revealed by MRI) was more common in the vanishing group ( p   〈  0.001). No recurrence developed in the vanishing group, but recurrences were noted in 3.3% (14/412) of the residual group. There were no significant between‐group differences in any of the numbers of pregnancies or births, systemic disease status, or hemogram parameters (all p   〉  0.05). Conclusion Vanishing EC is more likely in premenopausal women with endometrioid grade 1 EC (as revealed by endometrial biopsy) who lack myometrial invasion on MRI.

Abstract: Bu araştırmada eğitim fakültesinde öğrenim gören sınıf öğretmenliği öğrencilerinin yaşadıkları konuşma kaygılarının çeşitli değişkenler açısından farklılık gösterip göstermediği değerlendirilmiştir.

Abstract: Intrauterine device is one of the most preferred contraceptive methods. Rare complications such as uterine perforation were getting more common due to increased use of intrauterine device and could be seen either with mild manifestations or serious cases like bladder or intestinal damage. A 48-year-old patient who is consulted to our clinic because of a missed copper intrauterine device was presented. The intrauterine device was inserted 28 years ago, detected in pelvis incidentally by x-ray and extracted via laparotomy. Although device has been in abdomen for nearly three decades, we did not see any serious reaction or adhesion during surgery.Management of a patient with intrauterine device should be done carefully and following the instructions before insertion, regular examination at every visit are important.
