Abstract:
SUMMARY. — From the end of the 17th century till the middle of the 19th century, the « Jardin du roi », which became the « Muséum d'histoire naturelle », played, due the naturalists travellers, a very important role in the discovery of the natural wealth of this planet. Beginning with the concrete examples, the author tries to bring out a certain amount of outlines, typical of the training programme, ability or personality of those travellers and which allow a better estimation of quality and the limits of their action.
