Abstract:
En mars 1864, l'éditeur Hetzel, associé avec Jean Macé, auteur de la célèbre Histoire d'une bouchée de pain, crée le Magasin d'éducation et de récréation qui paraît jusqu'en 1906. Cette entreprise à succès procède d'une double tradition : la presse enfantine des contemporains de Rousseau et la presse romantique illustrée. Elle invente une alliance originale entre pédagogie et amusement : non pas simple juxtaposition du texte et de l'image, ni confrontation de deux démarches distinctes d'éducation et de récréation. Il s'agit d'une interaction étroite entre les formes littéraires et illustratives des deux domaines.
