Abstract:
Objetivo: Conocer las percepciones sobre la profesión médica de escolares del último año de educación secundaria el año 2001, en Lima Metropolitana. Material y Metodos: Estudio transversal descriptivo, realizado entre Junio y Agosto del 2001 en escolares del último año de secundaria de colegios particulares (CP) y nacionales (CN). Se utilizó un cuestionario validado para evaluar la percepción de 5 dimensiones relacionadas a la carrera médica: características de la carrera, personalidad del estudiante de medicina, percepción social del médico, aspecto educacional y aspecto familiar. Se comparó los resultados por tipo de colegio y se buscó asociación con las variables generales. Resultados: Fueron incluídos 548 (81.4%) escolares de 6 colegios (40.7% de CN, 37.4% de CP religiosos y 21.9% de CP no religiosos): 70.4% eran varones y la edad promedio fue 16.3 ± 0.7. El 98.7% deseaba estudiar alguna carrera profesional, 18.6% estudiar medicina. Tener un familiar profesional de salud, una experiencia previa buena con un médico y el conocimiento de la duración de la carrera estuvieron asociados a la elección (p 〈 0,01). El 86.1% la consideraron una carrera larga, más del 80% resaltó actitudes especiales del estudiante de medicina, 34.1% resaltó su inteligencia y 34.3% opinó que la carrera de medicina les permitiría ganar dinero más rápido. Conclusiones: La percepción de la carrera médica conserva los fundamentos de vocación y servicio, pero el tiempo invertido en ella juega un papel negativo para su elección.
