Abstract:
Les recherches d'histoire demeurent un des domaines les moins vigoureux de l'égyptologie, en dépit de l'énorme masse documentaire parvenue jusqu'à nous. C'est que les Égyptiens se situent eux-mêmes dans une perspective toute autre que la nôtre, en quelque sorte a-chronologique, a-historique ; les événements se présentaient plutôt comme l'actualisation de grands thèmes correspondant à l'ordre rituel du cosmos. Les études concernant l'histoire pharaonique sont actuellement menées sans plan d'ensemble, ni programmes directeurs ; à propos d'une découverte de fouille, d'un objet de musée ou d'un papyrus, le chercheur procède à une enquête purement ponctuelle et occasionnelle. Cependant, quelques publications récentes méritent d'être signalées. Pour l'historiographie générale du monde antique, c'est l'histoire de la basse époque qui présente le plus grand intérêt, puisqu'alors l'Egypte des Pharaons, qui se poursuit jusque sous les Ptolémées et les Césars, participe au grand choc des Empires et des cultures.
