Abstract:
The second in a series of articles on library buildings completed since the 1980s and based largely on the library literature. New buildings, extensions and conversions in Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland Romania, Yugoslavia and the USSR are noted. The literature, with the exception of Hungary and East Germany, provides little detail of specific projects but does illustrate a number of theoretical and practical concerns. There is also considerable discussion in the East European countries about the adaptation of buildings for library purposes.
